Guitar guys...

What do you think of this guitar?

https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/108747476

Is it worth the going bid?

Personally I don't think I've ever seen such a pretty looking instrument.
Do you think it sounds as good as it looks, in capable hands of course?

Hard to get a feel without playing it. That said-

does it sound as good as it looks?

When I look for a guitar, I look for fretwear.
If it has a well worn fretboard with fingerlint and buzzing frets b/c someone played the ****e out of it, it meant the guitar inspired someone enough to play the hell out of it. Wear on the top where someone strummed the hell out of it. Dents where it was used over the years. The back of the neck paint worn through. I want indented ebony on the fingerboard. Same for the case- beat to hell. That ain't wear, that's love.

In p-car terms- I want a driver, not a garage queen. Not that that's a bad guitar, but, I'd take a beat to death "well travelled" girl over a non played guitar any day of the week.

Money is relative. I'm sure it's a nice guitar. Good luck either way. What do you want to play on the back of an observation car rolling down the tracks?

edit- and for that $$$, he should at least use spellcheck in his listing.

Hmmm.

I am torn. On one hand, the silverburst was used in the 90's I think. Sort of a passing trend that didn't go anywhere. Most of the silverburst guitars were not exceptional.

But, this one seems to be a custom shop job. Meaning, hand crafted. With love. And attention.

It should be a pretty darn nice guitar. Me? I like what leaky says and buy from the pawnshop.

I think it was Stevie that said something about a guitar doing time in a pawnshop before it knew the blues.

I too would not buy a guitar without being able to hold it and play it first.

As for the comments on wear and tear, I agree. I have a mid-fifties tube amp that sounds great but is beat to hell. My wife, a big Bruce fan, always tells me I should paint it and make it look new again. I respond by asking her if Bruce should restore his Telecaster. That stops the conversation pretty quick.

Looks like a recent custom-shop LP. Nice, but nothing super-special. I'd say the current bid is already overpriced. YMMV.

Way overpriced. I have a 2010 LP Custom in ebony, excellent condition and got it for $2500 shipped from GC (used). Those guitars are $4700 new and the grow on trees.

I had a buddy in high school who had that guitar, which was was around 1985. I love LP Customs, but not that color. BTW, they are heavy, like probably 10 lbs or a little more. I can barely handle a three hour band practice with my LP Custom.

^^^^ this. LP is a heavy, unbalanced (to me anyways) guitar. Great look, great history, just never will be one I buy.

Got a '66 LP custom. Hardly ever play it. Just got a new Ultra Strat for about $1800. Trying to decide if I like my '81 Tele or the Strat better. Used to the Tele. Yeah, them LPs be heavy.

Pretty sure there were no LP's in `66. Re-issue, or re-neck maybe?

Might look at the Class 5's. I believe they offer more weight-relief (but not fully chambered), and save a pound or two. Sort of a hybrid of new wood + retro gear and a premium top/finish (I think).

I would never buy an ax or any other instrument with out playing it. Head on over to Guitar Center and go pick one up. Play it, and work out a deal with the sales man. Usually they haver their weekly "annual" once in a life time blowout sale, on a weekly basis. LOL! go to guitar center...

Overpriced. Like everything Gibson makes.

You can get an ESP that does everything better for less.

Gibson is not at fault for used prices. Their new prices are pretty silly for what they make (Heritage is a better bang for the buck), but the market pretty much decides the used prices. And Gibson makes guitars a lot faster than anyone makes new guitar players. Supply will eventually be way ahead of demand.

Nothing is overpriced if people will pay the ask for it.
New or used, it's all supply and demand.

Although, if retail is $2,500 but nobody pays retail, then the original price is just a marketing ploy....

True.. a little off topic.. earlier this year I bought a vintage (1978) Ibanez Artist "Scruggs"

Which is a LP clone, Wanted a "Weir" double cut.. but the price premium wasn't worth it..

The guitar is 10.5# and sometimes that makes me reluctant to pick it up.. I know first world problems...

It has inspired me to look for a nice PRS semi-hollow, or hollow S2,,

Difficult decisions..
