Holster help?
The 4" 686 is proving difficult to find a belt holster for. Any of you other S&W guys have a reco? I don't mind custom work.

You might try Tommy Theis. Custom holster maker in Arkansas

I have a couple custom-ish jobs from these guys (and they are not to far from your neck of the woods):
Fist Holsters Excellent quality with all sorts of configurations/options/materials available. Warning: Their website sucks. |
I just went through this. I bought a Beretta 92D double action semi auto a few weeks ago.
My wife also took a women only CCW class a few weeks ago and wanted a holster. Good site to look at options: https://www.midwayusa.com/holster-finder/ |

She took the course because we hosted it here on the farm and she knew the other ladies. She learned a lot and had a great time. She wanted a holster after the class, not so much to cc, but to practice what she was taught. Great day for them. Quote:

Difficult? I find that surprising. I found four right in my own holster drawer... ;)
Left to right, top to bottom: Galco Combat Master, Bianchi 7 Shadow 2, El Paso Saddlery Street Combat, and Bianchi 111 Cyclone. You can tell I prefer leather... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607040192.jpg |

I have been dealing with Midway for as long as they have been around. Absolutely first rate in every way. Competitive prices, fastest shipping in the business, huge inventory, and the best customer service I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. Midway and Brownell's are my go-to's for "modern" firearms stuff, Buffalo Arms for the "antique" stuff. I would be very, very interested in why you would say that about Midway. |

He was my neighbor until a few years ago, now he's over near jax/st aug. Excellent work, can do exotic leathers as well. |
Jeff, what would you recommend for a four inch Colt Diamondback? My son gave me one for Christmas last year. I can find plenty of Detective Special holsters, some for the 2 inch Diamondback, but almost none of good quality for a 4 inch Diamondback and don’t know revolvers well enough to know whether the Detective Specials fit the Diamondback.

They are horrible, in every way, IMO (IME). The last straw for me was a few years back when they completely screwed up an order, and expected me to pay the ($20+) return shipping. And that wasn't the first incorrect order. Before that it was a myriad of things that slowly built up, to include: * Prices not even remotely competitive (even with their yearly "birthday" pricing). * Ridiculous restocking fees on certain items. I never returned anything, including the aforementioned incorrectly-sent items they tried to extort return shipping on. I just don't agree with additional/obscene extortion policies. * Selling used/returned/open-box items as new (confirmed, by me). * Ordered items not being in stock, and secondary back-orders being created, that never show up. * Comically bad customer service. * Slow and expensive shipping. * Etc., etc. For me, Brownell's is LEAGUES better (especially with a biz account) but still not my go-to for a lot stuff. Midway? Never again... |

Nice leather holster made in USA, $30 for an IWB for a Taurus G2C Rich |
Flatbutt are there any guns shows in your area ? While there are great online options I'm the kind of guy that likes to see/touch in person . Generally speaking gun shows will have a wide variety of vendors in attendance including holster sales . Bring your revolver with you and check the various vendors until you find what you want .
|
I would never use a leather holster.
|
^^^ There are pros/cons for both leather and plastics (Kydex, etc.). Depends on the application/intent/preference.
Though, a revolver in a kydex holster just seems wrong to begin with. :p |
I carry my 686 in a Fobus LK-4. I’m happy with it.
