Today was a pretty good day (Car-related)
I have a bit of a problem. - (at least according to certain people I live with). I like to acquire interesting automotive-related historic pieces. Nothing extravagant, but interesting and occasionally rare. I was fortunate enough to acquire a pretty interesting home movie of the 1966 LeMans race out of Germany earlier this year. It was a bit of a crap shoot when I bought it as the seller (an auction house) was not exactly clear as to what was on the Super 8 film and Google translate isn't always 100% accurate. However I rolled the dice and won the bid. The first 90 seconds is good. There is footage from the pits of the Ken Miles driven GT40 of "Ford vs Ferrari" fame. Also cools shots of Ferraris, Matras and Porsches. The last 2 minutes is unfortunately damaged.
Long story short - word of the film got back to the RK Collection and I got to meet the owner of the actual car (it's in Charlotte, NC). In addition to that car, the collection also contains Mark Donahue's 917/30 and the 1931 LeMans winning Alfa Romeo. Also had a chance to show the film and they are going to see if they can possibly restore the last 2 minutes of it. As I said, it was a pretty good day. :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607052315.jpg |
Very cool! Very nice.
I had a similar week. I’m not posting the photos but my 10 year old boy got to sit in a Countach and a 550 Spyder. He was promised a ride in the Countach next spring. |
Nice

Good day indeed. Rob has taken his car out to many public events - Rennsport Reunion, Porsche Effect, Amelia Island, etc. His car is chassis 003 which is not only a very successful ex-Penske car, but was the same car Mark Donahue drove at Talladega for the top-speed run. Otis Chandler owned the car for a long time. After Rob bought the car, he gave it to Canepa for an extensive restoration.
BTW, congrats on the film find! |
cool!

That’s pretty awesome, good story.

Great story and I’m guessing for both parties, they probably had as much fun showing you the cars and talking about the film as you did looking at the cars and talking about them.

Sounds like a great week! cool score of the film.

Thanks all!!!

I'd share the film here, but were holding it back until it is restored (hopefully) and determine how to best share it with a larger audience. |
