I’ll have to give them a second chance based on you guys. SNF wasn't my cup of tea and about 10 years before my time.
A similar thing happened to me though with The Beach Boys. I never gave them much thought, just an older, good time summertime pop; holy crap was I wrong.

So I watched the film yesterday afternoon. It was a well-spent afternoon and I have a new appreciation for the BeeGees. Thanks Paul.
They were survivors in an industry that tends to kill people young. There were so many songs that I heard on the radio over the years and liked but didn't realize they were by the Bee Gees.
I liked Robin's voice the best. Barry's falsetto gets on my nerves after a while.
When their manager, Robert Stigwood, told them to write a song for Otis Redding they came back the next day with "To Love Somebody." Redding died before he could record it, so they recorded it. One of their best songs.

Somehow the rumor went out that they were the Beatles recording under a pseudonym because they were part of Brian Epstine’s management company and “BG” supposedly stood for “Beatles Group”. My family had a huge sheet music songbook called something like “Great Songs of the 60s” that had the lyrics to all of the great songs of that era. This morning played New York Mining Disaster 1941 to a 30 year old guy off of Apple Music. I asked who it was. He said the Beatles.

I accepted the Bee Gee's once I found out all the Eagles played with them at some point. If Joe Walsh can play with them I can to listen to them, but seriously, folks.

When I was a teen I just could not listen to them. Was not appealing to me at the time. I was into classic rock and metal. As I have gotten older my music taste has expanded, widened, what ever you want to call it.. I know I am older and I have become very patient when I can listen to a Bee Gee's song from start to finish. They have some cool riffs. Vocals are exceptional from a musical standpoint.

Very talented when you look at the amazing success they had and contributed to others. Unfortunate and tragic end to the brothers. Barry is staying alive.

Music is like food, each song or genre has a different flavor to it.

If Nostril Cheese can rock out to the Bee Gees we probably all can.

As far as driving music with a bunch of people in the car rocking all singing out to Bohemian Rhapsody followed by Staying Alive can get pretty lively..and hairy. I once saw Mike Geier live (The Clown -Puddles Pity Party) perform live. He did a great cover of I started a joke.

Via the No Depression email newsletter, I learned last week that Barry Gibb’s Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook Vol. 1 was released on Friday. Harry Carrigan’s No Depression story is “Barry Gibb Reimagines Classics and Deep Cuts through Collaboration on ‘The Gibb Brothers Songbook.” The news is that Barry went to Memphis to record selected Bee Gees’ numbers with some of his favorite country and Americana artists.

Hillary Hughes has Barry’s comments on a few tracks in the Entertainment Weekly story “Barry Gibb’s country moment: ‘It’s time to do what I love and not what everyone asks me to do.'” Stephanie Nolasco has a little more in the Fox News story “Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb talks going country with ‘Greenfields’: ‘You have to work pretty hard to be accepted.’”

My theory this morning is this. Even if you were never a Bee Gees fan, I’m guessing you may have had a favorite Bee Gees song without much thinking about it. Mine is “How Deep Is Your Love.” What a beautiful melody. Where the song asks “How deep is your love,” the answer is not “I really need to know,” it’s “I really mean to learn” — so much better. And “‘Cause we’re living in a world of fools” states a permanent truth.

Among the artists who join Barry Gibb on the disc are Keith Urban, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Miranda Lambert, and the Americana duo David Rawlings and Gillian Welch. I was unfamiliar with Little Big Town and Jay Buchanan, but I enjoyed both of them. If you’re a fan of any of the artists, you may want to check out the recording for that reason as well.

First concert I ever attended. Wasn't a fan, hated disco, but my buddy and his sister had an extra ticket so WTH.

A warm summer evening 1978(ish), Dodger Stadium, first time I'd ever seen open drug use, I was 15 and too young to inhale, but perhaps I had a contact-high cuz it was an amazing event. So exciting - thrilling even. I was a live music virgin, and I was completely blown away. Never bought their records, but I'm still grateful for that free ticket!

I watched another Bee Gees program tonight (Thanks Paul for bringing them up). I noticed that Robin always stood alone in front of the microphone. I couldn't do that. I always found comfort in having the podium between me and the audience when addressing a crowd, and in the one instance that I played and sang, the guitar felt like a shield. I can't imagine standing there naked in front of a bunch of people the way he did.

I listened to most of them. The one with Dolly Parton was supposed to be great, as she "brilliantly covered" for his loss of falsetto. Maybe so, but my favorite was with Alison Krauss, "Too much heaven." Her lilting voice was perfect to cover his voice's weakness.

Wow, that's what, a record for writing? I don't think Bob Dylan has written that many, but what do I know. Carole King has written a couple hundred that I have seen. Seems she wrote with Paul Anka quite a bit back in the Phil Spector days.

I did not like them much back in the day however some of their music has grown on me over the years. Some other music I used to listen to? Not so much anymore.
