AC Motor Rebuild?

I had to have the motor in our washing machine replaced. The guy who fixed it left the old motor behind. Is there someplace that rebuilds these or are they considered disposable?

For washing machine motors they are usually cheaper to replace because they make lots of them. True specialty motors can be rebuilt, but you are paying for a technician to do the repair. Unless it is some rare expensive motor, it is just scrap. Many high volume made motors like washer motors that are made with cheap bushings and not bearings.

At my power plant, we definitely have 20 hp motors we rebuild. But small motors up to 2 or 3 hp, cheaper to buy a new one.

Unless it is a special motor. As Glen said, the older motors have good bearings, etc, and might be worth it. Washing machine motors are dime-a-dozen.
