Value of Stratocaster Signed by Eddie Van Halen?
Here's hoping the OT brain trust can provide some insight as to the current and potential future value of this thing - assuming it checks out as being legit, of course.
I'm not a musician, not into musical instruments and have no idea as to what value I should place on this as part of a trade. If it's real, though, I do think it might be a pretty cool thing to have. https://rockies.craigslist.org/msg/d/leadville-eddie-van-halen-signed-guitar/7240693323.html _ |
Not sure it's worth a car...
|
It's a Squire.
Guitar on it's own not worth much. So it's more what a Las Vegas Hard Rock casino might be willing to pay |
I just saw somewhere, they were asking 200,000.00 for a JCM 800 Marshall head that belonged to EVH .
' Normally a few thousand $ |
Hi Norm,
You might take a look on this website and see what they say. WWW.GOTTAHAVEROCKANDROLL.COM If it is real, who knows what it might be worth. Good Luck Crow |

If nothing else, I now know that a Stratocaster is not a Stratocaster is not a Stratocaster. _ |
Take it to "Pawn Stars."
|
If it was one of his personal guitars that he used they can go six figures..
You can buy this one for $1288 and signed by Sammy Hagar, Eddie Van Halen, Michael Anthony, and Alex Van Halen. Supposedly authenticated by a 3rd party. Whatever that means. https://gr-8-gift.com/product/van-halen-band-signed-esp-red-metallic-stratocaster-styled-electric-guitar/?gclid=CjwKCAiA_eb-BRB2EiwAGBnXXvv0RuFGvmDiKpsHQiR7rHnjc77qdR8ezRSOr9 gtU0-EHuAozv8biBoCRcoQAvD_BwE |
Whenever they have a contest "Win a guitar autographed by XXXXX !" it's always an electric Squire or Epiphone acoustic.
Cheap guitars, the autograph is worth about as much as if it was on paper. Definitely not worth a car. I'm not sure how much stuff EVH signed, I'm thinking $250-500. You can get Squires for $100-150 new. |
Might just have to admit I'm a car guy who is so unfamiliar with the vagaries of "collectible" autographs and musical paraphernalia that steering clear is very likely my best course of action.

It's worth the price of an autograph plus $100.
|
Couple hundred at the most.
|
Now, I do have a "Semi-Pro" ABA basketball signed by Will Ferrell (one of THE toughest autographs to get) I'll trade for a classic car. :)

Not worth a car - but definitely worth a LR Disco! :)

Wouldn’t Eddie just sign anyone’s guitar that asked him to? It isn’t worth dick.
|
I would usually say not worth dick as well... but here is a SOLD item on ebay.
Just remove the pick guard and throw it up on Ebay. I'd aim for half of this and see if you can nab any takers. This looks to be sold very early after his death and would assume prices will come down quite a bit. |
Eddies signature doesnt look the same......no expert here......but looks really different.

If the sig is real, then it probably has increased the value of the guitar some, but it's nothing like if it was a great guitar owned by him or played in some concert or on an album or something. |
Epiphones and Squires are great because they’re cheap as dirt and fun to hack around on. If it breaks it’s easy to replace. I play guitar for fun, not to be a snob. I can’t really tell much difference between an Epi LP and a Gibson LP or a Fender Strat vs. a Squier. They all play fine and sound fine through an amp for what I want to do.
Kinda cool if EVH signed it but I wouldn’t think worth a ton or anything. |

I can't get excited about an autograph.
Carroll Shelby, EVH, Reggie Jackson, etc... The product is what I want. I know that autographs increase the value but I am not one to pay any attention to it. I love my American Standard Tele and it plays the same way if Eric Clapton, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Walch, Joe Satriani, Lightning Joe and every famous guitarist put a signature on the instrument. Just me but I have never thought an autograph meant anything. Value is objective, not subjective to me. |
Ah man, Eddy is gone....<iframe width="613" height="345" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OUrwa3TMSwE" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If it is signed by Barbi Benton..............I'm interested.

The PSA authentication sticker/number checks out on their website, so I'm at least somewhat certain that it's EV's autograph. Determining the value, on the other hand, seems to be a bit more tricky, as we've been shown an example of an EV-signed pick protector actually selling for five grand, while other "standard" autographs seem to be in hundred-to-few-hundred dollar range. _ |

That Marshall JCM800 is a total joke. Ed never used it, probably never even turned it on. I heard his '68 Plexi, the one he bought when he was 16 and was used on every album, sold privately for $250k when Ed knew he was terminal. But that was a truly special amp, like holy grail even if Ed hadn't owned it. Having it on every VH album was icing on the cake. |
Eddie's illnesses and death were horrible... RIP
|
Now here's one that would be kind of cool to have. I took this at NAMM a few years ago. This was a prototype Fender had sent to Ed, a remake of his Stars guitar, I think only used on the third tour. When they'd send him guitars, he rejected a lot of them. But when he gave it the green light, this is how it looked - he signed the back of the headstock. It was a thrill for me to even hold this guitar and get to plink on it for a few minutes.
