With due respect, my personal experience would indicate otherwise at least when it comes to Nucore Rigid Core Luxury Vinyl Planking (installed by a professional).

Your rigid LVT has a cork backing right?
If it's making noise it's either the pre existing floor covering underneath or your floor needed to be leveled to spec prior to installation. The LVT itself is not at fault for your noisy situation, trust me.

Hooo boy did I start something?

Well lets stir that pot. What sort of oil (based stain) should I use on my floor?

Chris
All the floors we have discussed come pre-finished

The slab was patched, ground flat, and a really thin layer of levelling slurry was floated over the slab prior to laminate installation.

It's likely the installer did not do it perfectly causing the less than stellar result. It looked to me like they knew what they were doing but what do I know, never messed with the stuff before.
But IMO if the product is that temperamental, I'll stick to ceramic tile in the future.

Does it have enough ZDDP for the long haul?

Did you tells us what species it is? Open grain use Duraseal followed by 2 coats of urethane. If you want more yellow/golden, use oil based. If you're happy with the color when wiped with water, use water borne.

If closed grain, I'd use a thin stain like Minwax. Don't do either in the sun.

You can get back on the floor for clear coat sooner with WB.

I'm sure it was a prep mistake. Id guess the leveler crumbled. That's the only thing that can make noise as LVT in itself is not temperamental at all. The problem is quite likely the same as in my neck of the woods. The guy who installed it could be a great carpet installer but not an experienced hard surface guy. Carpet hides a multitude of sins and prep work can be crude but works. Carpet is what everyone is getting away from but the installers need work and their license covers all. Less carpet to install,? branch out into hard surface and learn on the go
