An ICE run in a neutron beam
Very cool technology. A high tech ICE, built on a 3D platform that is analysed in real time during combustion with hi density neutron scattering..... metallurgy, combustion efficiency, deformation.... even F1 does not have this! at Oak Ridge NL

pretty slick
can you get info about HC chains, etc with it? or just atomic structure? |
That's cool!
I helped with the design and construction of the exhaust system for this project. Hope it works!! |

We have about 20 instruments that are optimized to study different structures and materials. We also have a fundamental neutron physics instrument working on things like the neutron electron dipole moment. Fun stuff. That's about all I know. I just keep the neutron factory running. SmileWavy |
I miss going to Oakridge, beautiful area. My daughter used to do crew, and there is great regatta there (Dogwood).

Here is a link to a virtual tour of our Target Building (or Instrument Hall, depending on whether you're a target guy or an instrument guy). This is where me and BK911 hang out...

Thanks TN boys!! really great stuff. must be fascinating to work with that state of the art equipment... the tour is fantastic. The deuterium exchange excitation also fascinating. Btw we are thing that something like this could be adapted to a realtime covid19 detector that hangs on the wall, like a radon detector...My reading ,likely wrong, is that the neutron diffraction primarily directed to the metal dynamics and less so to the hydrocarbons being burned ... but i am a lowly molecular biologist what do i know...
|
ok, now I'm curious what you are doing in molecular biology? (or molecular genetics...)
|
Thanks for asking RW. 35 years in ivy league medical school level basic research in cancer biology /genetics. Cloning new oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes , Mechanisms of gene regulation,. Epigenetic regulation including chemical re-programming of stem cells, Human genome project level mapping. De novo protein design and engineering. Recently left academia and gone to the "dark side". started biotech co. engineering new anti-inflammatory proteins: Innatebiologics.com.. currently on the fund raising dog and pony show circuit now... ugh.
|
nothing wrong with more direct work - if it's meds, then the dark side is just a penumbral shadow
Epigenetics does seem to be where it's at right now |
|
Now thats funny right there PWD. ... !!! encabulator!! better than muffler bearings and way more technical..... as soon as i say " T-cell" or "Epigenetics" at a cocktail party , everyone runs to the bar! useful in fact.
|
next party say "Killer T-cell" and furl your eyebrows
see if they run faster |
HAH !! indeed. exactly!!!
