I'm definitely getting a Miata
|
Something tells me it won’t sound as good.
|
It looks good but I don't think the 11,000 covers everything. It seems like there are an additional 8 "chapters" that are needed to complete the build.
|
Cool.
|
Agree and it doesn't look like they tell you how much each kit is to ultimately complete the car. But what a great car it would be assuming you are crazy enough to drive it on the street if you could make it a street legal kit car.

Still, I'd happily pay if I had the spare money for a toy like that. I'd probably even try to make it street legal as a kit (add some lights and a horn, right?). Hell yes! That's AWESOME! |

That looks like Wayne’s new car!
|
Wow! Now thats cool!

the proper used set Borrani centerlaced wheels will set you back 5-6K anyway. 10-12K for new. That is the definitive part of the "look." whenever I see these types of cars without the proper wires, it just ruins it all. I picked up a set of Ferrari 500 Borranis for a project I'm working on.....and it's probably the most expensive part of my project.
I talked with the historian at Borrani when I was researching my build, and he gave me the specs...they have an archive with every wheel they've ever made, with specs, sizes, offsets, etc...as well as what cars they were originally used on. Borrani RW3264 in the rear and RW3696 would fit this well. Painted...never chrome. |
I’ll get a Miata but not for this reason. I’d get a stick for my daughter so she learns stick and nobody borrows her car.

It's all based on Anstead's build that was televised last year - using an alfa spider - in the "Master mechanic" series available on motor trend on demand. I guess there was a demand for the car because they now made a kit.. Watch the show if you can (you can subscribe for a month for like $2.00 and then leave) it's quite good... It's hard not to like Anstead for his enthusiasm and skills...

Shaun.
Did you finally finish the Ice green targa and the engine on the 928? I bet building this "alfa" takes tons of time |
Go for it Shaun. If anyone can pull this off, it would be you.
I thought about sending them a check myself before the price jumps, but I don't think I could pull it off without assistance. |

I saw that thing. If i had 30k to spend on a toy, that would be it.
|
I'd have a hard time between a Beck 550, Lotus/Caterham 7, and one of these.

I would prefer an inline 6 from BMW for powerplant
|
I think there's a reason you don't see many open wheel cars licensed for the street.

My recollection of Ant's build was it ain't as easy as some might lead you to believe and there was a fair bit of fabrication. I also remember a second donor vehicle being used. |

quite a coincidence, I was cleaning up my desktop and found the web site for this kit just a few days ago. Might be a 2023 deal if I can hire help.
|
I did it… I bought a spec miata race car on the weekend. I’ve raced (and won) in a couple sm cars and really like the platform.

Looks like cost is going to be on the order of 25k GBP plus your Miata. Super cool results, though!

Mr Antstead is a talented fellow. Yeah, I would want a euro straight six, Jag, BMW, Merc, whatever. Friend of mine has an OLD Alfa roadster, 1930's maybe, with the twin cam out of a wrecked 1960's Alfa. Original body, not much rust but not much paint either, coolest thing you ever saw. Until you saw his buddy, with the American rat rod, with a Merc straight six, fuel injected. Tough call, sorry, could not find pic of straight six car, it was Chevy, mid thirties sedan, also with a healthy patina http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1478758388.jpg |

I've often looked at Lotus/Caterham 7 type vehicles and thought about if I'd want cycle fenders vs clamshell. I'd love to be able to see the front tires and suspension working, but I suspect the clamshell would make driving much more pleasant. What I've decided in the past is that if i was to purchase, I'd get both and be able to swap back and forth. I assume that isn't tough. But, I'd have to assume that the cycle fenders is better than nothing. I did think it was interesting that in the video that I posted, they had the "wings." I wondered "what the hell are those," and it then in the video, they explained that they were added to the Fangio car for when he was in the rain and at opposite lock. So technically, those are probably kind of like the clamshell fenders. |
