Any MB G-Wagen Owners?

Thinking about buying a used one (G500 or G550) 5 or 6 years old NOT an AMG.

I test drove it and came away liking it.

Seems like they have been reliable for the most part, scouring the forums.

Any of you guys owned one?
Feedback?

Cheers,
Yasin

I have not owned one but a good friend of mine has owned one for the 30 years I have known him. His wife drives one as well. Newer model.

We commuted into DC together for 6 months and I really enjoyed the thing when I wasn't asleep

Rear seat is a joke.
Fuel consumption rivals that of a semi.
But they are über cool.

Shaun - I like everything about Yasin, he is a great guy.

But on the G-Wagen, I liked the torque of the V8, build quality, its a big truck but does not feel big once its on the move. Its large on the inside and can swallow up stuff I can throw in there. I also like the styling.

I'm currently daily driving a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner Limited bought brand new and typical for conservative Toyota, they do everything to 75% and then stop. It urks me!

Be sure to try out a 2019 or newer. That next generation is supposed to be much better. I think the market has cooled off a good bit lately and should cool off some more for used cars.

Rear seat space did seem a little on the smaller side but acceptable, but lots of headroom.

Speaking of fuel consumption, the 4Runner that I currently drive struggles to get 18-19mp/g - surprisingly and its a low strung 6 cylinder. Yes the G will be mid to low teens, fully understand that.

Yes, I will look at the current gen. Seems like the market has become soft on these, which is nice if you're a buyer, once advantage of the current state of gas prices\economy. They were overpriced for a long time.

Brand new, the G 63s were bringing $100K over MSRP, with a resultant bump in the used market on them. Mercedes said they weren't going to make them in 2022 as they cut way back on the V8, then they brought them back. We had Joe Lacob's V12 G 65 on consignment. The next gen V8 is a much better car, let alone the expense of maintaining a V12.
