DIY Windshield bonding
 

Never done it before. Can anyone recommend a bonding system: cleaner, primer, and adhesive.

The back story is I have almost finished building a 928 race/track car. I have completed all the prep to flush mount the windshield, the last step is bonding to the aluminum frame.

I plan to buy an air caulk gun, curing time and cost are low priorities.

There are many involved repair projects I have taken on. Windshields is something that experience helps to prevent broken windshields or leaks. Call your favorite body shop or upholstery shop. They will have a independent "guy" that does the gall as their business. Get that phone number and get him to come help you, or you help him. It will not cost that much. Cheaper than a broken windshield or two.

That is my suggestion anyway. Good luck. Just the sealants and equipment my cost you more than the pro's service call.

Assuming you're talking about a Urethane product? I've used 3M Urethane adhesive. I don't do cars but it's used on construction equipment to adhere cab glass.

I dont have a specific product for you, but our factory used SIKA products for the primer. Often the body primer was different from the glass primer. The Urethane will take 24hr to cure with the window temporarily taped in place. Set the glass on stands and apply the urethane to the glass then install with suction cups. Better to install with two people.
