My First eBay Return
I’ve been buying (and occasionally selling) on eBay for close to two decades, and I’ve never returned anything, even though I’ve been disappointed a few times. My general feeling is that I know I’m buying used stuff and that it could be wonky, so unless I think I’ve been really wronged, I chalk it up to life lessons.
Well, I’ve finally initiated a return. I bought a NAD 317 amplifier, advertised as good working condition. The seller didn’t ship it for over a week, then it arrived “packed” as shown, with some loosely wadded paper sprinkled over the bare bottom of the amp. The left channel was dead. The seller refused to take it back, saying he had “video evidence with a professional” that it worked before, and saying he wasn’t responsible for anything that happened in transit. I filled a case with eBay and provided the unboxing photo. eBay found in my favor and I need to print a label, pack it properly, and send it back, then I’ll get a PayPal refund. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1610218263.jpg Not newsworthy, just something new to me. |
Ebay will aways find in your favor. Lots of people game ebay. Some will even take off parts and send it back.

Yes, really nice packaging job, a little bit of foam would be nice, and double box. It was probably dead prior to shipping.

In 20 years Ive returned 1 item. It was a flashlight that did not work. The seller had no problem issuing a refund. Ive bought about 400 things on ebay.

My first Ebay return was a set of 914-4 heat exchanger from Automobile Atlanta that were Swiss cheese. It was sometime in 2000.

I have a 200 wpc NAD amp that's sorta surplus, we can talk...

Being cynical, I wonder if the seller purposefully didn't pack it well hoping you didn't take pics when it was opened so that they could claim shipping damage.
I bought a nice digital camera years ago that was DOA. They seller kept trying to push me to make a claim with the post office. I refused and filed a claim. Fortunately I took pics of the outer box and camera box (not a dent on either one). The seller fought it and after two months Fleabay said send it back for a full refund. I suspected the seller was a dirtbag extraordinaire so I shipped Certified, Return Receipt with signature. Sure enough, dirtbag claimed he never got it so I had to send proof it was signed for. Dirtbag claimed he didn't sign the card but Ebay said pound sand. I got my refund and dirtbag was shut down. |
Back about 10 years ago, I was selling lots of Datsun Z parts (when I could afford the parts cars). I sold a set of 1983 280ZXT turbo hood vents to someone in California for $40 shipped price. 7 (seven !) years later he contacts me, and claims that he just unboxed them after moving twice, and being stored in between moves, and he noticed that the mounting clips were broken off (but in the box).
I basically told him to pound sand, and that I would have made it right is he more timely (a few months, not 7 years)...I can't believe he actually had the nerve to contact me. |
I returned a newer Volvo dash switch that I had removed from the bag from an individual EBay seller who had a little Volvo parts business.
He calls me and said "There's paint flecks on this, I can't re-sell it". I said I was painting a mirror near the bench, and crap, I guess I have to eat the purchase. He said "Noooo, this is what you do. You submit a form online with respect to a contested return and EBay will refund you the money. I don't get harmed and you get your money back". I did that and EBay sent the $60 to my PayPal. Probably five years ago. Edit: Oops Quote:
