My dog's 'grandma' has bred champion ( as in USA ) rough coated Collie's for over 40+ years. Guess what dog food brand she uses? She also could / would buy any brand she wanted, but sticks with Purina |
Raw meat. 1/2 lb in the AM, 1/2 lb at 5PM. Turkey, beef, pork patties,

I give them the odd hard boiled egg or shredded chicken too. |
Orijen. Original for the old dog and puppy for the young fella.
Why? Locally produced. Great quality. Great product support. Smaller poops. |
+1 Pro Plan....

This has been a good discussion I thank all that chimed in . Last night we did a mix of the last of the Pedigree and some Purina One . Luke ate it up . This morning his breakfast was just Purina One , he chowed down like nothing has changed . After he finishes the 6 lb. bag we will switch to the Pro Plan we just purchased . Assuming he likes it and we see no issues that will be our dog food moving forward . Thanks again to all the dog lovers that took the time to reply .

Owen Walter gets some special food recommended by the vet because he has digestive system issues. It might be from eating shoes in his younger days. We get Purina ProPlan for the other two. |
Another gratuitous pic of our Noah....

Purina Pro Plan as recommended by my vet. One reason he promotes it is less likelihood of recalls. It's popular in bird dog groups i read so works for me.

This is what we use. Note the "Senior" blend. Has extras in it for joint health. They make a "Large Breed" variety too, which is what we used before Winkipop became a senior girl....
https://www.nutro.com/-/media/barefo...1-carousel.jpg 2/3 cup in the morning and 2/3 cup for dinner. She turns 16 next month.....still on zero meds....... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1610511857.JPG |
Just saw a recall on "Sportmix"???? ... 70 lost pups :(.
....and a Blue commercial: "Feed them like familly...." My dawg's having pizza today :)! |
Update: Luke has been eating the chicken and rice Purina Pro Plan for about a week now . He gets 1 1/2 cups twice a day for breakfast and dinner . He is not a inhaler he eats at a steady pace . But since switching from Pedigree to Purina his pace has picked up . He really seems motivated to eat . No issues that we can see and poop looks good .......... as good as poop can look 😁 .
The Pro Plan is available at Tractor Supply/Pet Smart/Petco so not difficult to find . They also stock the beef and salmon flavors if we decide to change things up . Price for a 18 lb. bag is $33.99 which we believe is a reasonable price for a quality product . Thanks to everyone that chimed in with advice and personal experiences , hopefully others learned something . |
I finally have my poopie on 100% Pro Plan... wethinks it's the good lookin' poop too :D. I've always switched between the various PP flavors/mixes ... variety change with no issues.
