AT&T or T-mobile
 

Well I, I started with nextel in the 90s, then Sprint bought Nextel and now T-mobile has bought Sprint.
Well, AT&T rep contacted us a few weeks ago, they are saying that they will upgrade our phones and iPad and will save us $200 a month. Anyone use AT&T and T-mobile have any opinions?
My phone is a major tool for my work, so reliability is a major factor.

Byron, I was with Verizon for 25+ years and switched to TMobile last year. I am very happy with the service. With Verizon I was paying about $130 for 2 phones with 1 MB of data. Phones were an old flip phone for my mom, and a Samsung S7 edge, both bought outright. With TMobile I pay a little more at $148 but have unlimited talk, text, data, Netflix, and 2 brand new (back then) Samsung S20+ phones.

The taxes and fees with At&T and Verizon were just nickel and diming me.

We went with T-mobile when my wife decided she couldn't live without a phone that couldn't text any more. I think we're on the 'old folks' plan of 2 phones for a set price. As far as I know it's all unlimited stuff as I've never been told I can't do something like text with my brother. I really don't know as my wife pays all the bills.
You might want to look into their plans.

If you have to call customer service, they answer cheerily.

I had lots of ATT dead spots..no Problems now.

Oh yeah, another reason I got TMobile is because I have the 2nd phone for my gf. She planned to go home to South Korea last April for shoulder surgery, and I was to follow 6 weeks later. TMobile has free data in lots of countries, and South Korea is one of them. With that free data, we are able to communicate with apps like KakaoTalk, without encountering roaming fees. Of course, those plans went out the window with Covid.

T mobile is as good as VZ and ATT, at a lower price, in urban areas. In rural areas, T mobile coverage is generally worse than VZ, not sure about ATT. This is, as I understand it, because T mobile didn’t have as much spectrum or as many cell locations as VZ, and tended to use higher frequency spectrum.

When T mobile merged with Sprint, the company gained a large along of spectrum including lower frequency, and it has been aggressively bidding for spectrum auctions as well. I think this should allow its coverage to improve in rural areas - if that is its strategy, which might not be the case. focusing more on 5G in urban areas may be the smarter strategy, than focusing on coverage in lightly populated areas.

Anyway, if you are mostly in urban areas, I’d give T mobile a try. Note that any carrier can have a dead spot right where you need coverage (your house, etc) and I don’t think there’s any real way to know that without trying.

Consumer Cellular does everything I need. I think it runs on ATT networks. $20 per month.

Byron you might want to check out Visible . Visible is a MVNO which stands for mobile virtual network operator . The big three cellular providers all have company owned MVNO's . As an example Cricket is owned by AT&T and Visible is owned by Verizon . I know T Mobile has theirs . Then there are MVNO' that are not company owned . They all use the same network of the big three .

Recently my wife and I switched from Google Fi to Visible . Visible has one plan ........ $40.00 a month for unlimited minutes/data/texts . And the $40.00 a month is the total price with taxes/fees . Visible has what they call " party plan " . The party plans allow other people to join your party up to four people total . Add one person your bill goes to $35.00 . Add another it's $30.00 . Add one more for four total each person pays $25.00 . Everyone gets their own bill so no one is responsible for someone else . Very easy .

So my wife joined my party so each of us pays $35.00 . That's what we were paying for Google Fi so for us it is a wash . But we are in the mountains in Ga. and Verizon's network is superior to others for rural coverage . With Visible there is no contract , sign up and you are up and running . You may be able to use existing phone or purchase from their website . If you are not happy with the service cancel anytime .

Final thoughts: Many MVNO's do NOT have brick and mortar stores so everything has to be done online . We didn't have any issues transferring our phone numbers , ordering new phones and activating them . I have nothing to do with Visible I am just a happy customer .

... and what JYL said too! I've had them all over the years ... my "house" has always been "iffy". I've been on CC for years, and they default to AT&T sims ... which like Verizon, sucked at my house during peak times. I switched to their other option (T-Mobile sim), and no issues at my house since. No one size fits all. A happy CC customer for years...

Around here, AT&T's coverage is good in certain areas... really bad in others. I had to switch because AT&T's dead spots ended up being in areas I traveled to frequently.

I'm on a fixed plan with AT&T. $55/month. It suits me. I live in an urban area but have traveled by car east and thru the midwest. I have no problems.

I bought my own phone so it comes down to price and value.

I think we've been on T-mobile for something like 15 years. I've always had excellent service for a good price. From what I understand, now that they've merged with Sprint, I should get even better service.

Everytime that we've looked into switching to see if we could improve on price, we've decided to stick with T-mobile.

Long time Sprint and now T Mobile. No issues. 65 for phone and 15 for tablet. 5 bucks off for autopay. 10 for taxes and other bs. 85 a month.

Both devices unlimited everything but can be throttled over 50 gb. Never been throttled even though I blow through the 50 limit every month since I share Sling to my Smart TV.

I have never had to pay for a phone or tablet upgrade.

For the Central united states AT&T has good coverage, and a pretty good plan.

I doubt there is any real difference in most cell companies. If the bill is reasonable it will come down to signal coverage.

I've switched back and forth a couple of times. Started with Cell-One which became AT&T. I switched to T-Mobile sometime after we moved to Houston. Then we went to AT&T when we moved everything to the business. Then the price became way to high and we've been back with T-Mobile.

A lot of these decisions should be on service in your area.

I switched from Verizon to AT&T a month ago and am regretting it. I have had to get on customers' wifi to run quotes for them because the coverage was so bad and this is the middle of Phoenix or Tucson.

T-Mobile over 55 plan a flat $50 per month with auto deduct. Unlimited everything.

I use AT&T prepaid, I buy my own phone when I want. No issues. I tried a prepay plan with Boost mobile as an experiment ten plus years ago. My EX was blowing up my phone, it was costing me a fortune. I got a cheap phone and a low cost monthly plan that only my EX had the number. She blew it up every day for hours on end. It saved me a ton in charges. I started using the phone and I didn't have any issues. Ended up exporting my number to a Boost plan about $200.00 per month cheaper ten years ago. I moved to AT&T a few years back, it works just as good as the others. Plus. if I am ever dissatisfied or a cheaper/better plan comes out I can just move my service at the end of the month.

t-mobile, if your a vet the have a good plan

AT&T kept adding new fees every month. I would have to go into the store, question the manager on every line item and get them removed.

T-mobile has had no issues.
