I was driving, heard the report on the radio. I had to pull over.

I was giving out unit mastery tests for Soc100.

I was in a gondola at Squaw Valley. A European tourist broke the news to us

I watched the launch in my 2nd grade classroom.

It was like yesterday.

I had just walked into my junior-level mechanical engineering measurements class when the professor told us. 3 years later I was working on the Shuttle program (payloads).

I have been watching the Netflix documentary on this the last few days. Really good. I was at Marshall Space Flight Center starting in '89. I was down at an old warehouse on Redstone Arsenal that NASA used one time looking for stuff for my program and ran across the solid rocket motors that had been cut up and cross-sectioned to examine the o-rings. Very cool.

I was in Grade 9 and at home during our exam break. I watched it live, too.

I was in grade school, 3rd I think. It was on TV in the class room. Our teacher turned it off when it exploded.

There were several kids that spent time in detention shortly thereafter for renaming NASA. I was not one of them.

Buddy of mine who does irrigation came up to start his part and told me about it.

He and I worked for a while longer......but there wasn't much more conversation.

That was half my lifetime ago. Doesn't seem that long ago. Can't remember where I was at the time but I'm sure it effected me as I was in aerospace.
I do remember being pissed at how the decision to launch came about after the investigation of the failure was released.

I was in my HS geometry class when they came in and told the teacher and he went pale. He had been one of the finalists to fly as a teacher.

Funny, I was in the third isle of the B&W market in Parma Idaho when JFK was shot. They announced it over the loud speaker and all the ladies started bawlin.
I could show you the exact spot where I was standing when the Loma Prieta earthquake struck.
I was just getting out of the shower drying my hair when I saw the World Trade Center burning on TV.
But if you asked me tonight what I had for breakfast I'd have to think about it
