Does "true up" for you guys mean you get a check for any power generated that you don't use? I have a buddy in NorCal running solar and he says he usually gets a check once a year. Out here in the Carolinas we have Duke Power. They have a "use it or lose it" policy. Made me find a way to "use it". ;)

Yes. "True up" means the date you & the power company settle up. Either they owe you or you owe them. I've never owed them, so I can't say what the rate is when you have to pay. I know they pay you the rate they pay their providers (wholesale), which is between two and four cents per kilowatt. They charge customers between around 28 cents and 48 cents per kilowatt on a three tier rate structure. Like I said, I got a credit for about $100 (check? - don't remember) for almost 3 megawatts of extra generation last year. That was one of the reasons I started thinking about an EV. It represented cheap power I could potentially use instead of selling it to the power utility for almost nothing. This is a feature of a "net metering" program where you get credited for extra generation. Unless you are on that kind of program, your excess generation just goes back into their grid. You don't get credit for extra and get charged for anything used over your generation.

Yeah, it's BS. It's some super light insulation that you can scrape away and apply a patch. . I had the same issue once. I went to AutoZone and bought a plug kit and just plugged it.

So, my local dealer is ripping people off. Well, they are in a mall. lol

I think this is why the bigger co's will end Tesla altogether when they get the range thing worked out. Supposedly Toyota has. If you can get Toy/Honda build quality and Tesla range then i suspect Tesla will be at the end of its useful life.

Just looked at Toyota's website and i don't see anything that directly competes with Tesla right now. Lots of hybrid options but nothing with the range of a tesla and no gas motor. Pretty sure i read they have 300+ mile range tech now though?

This fact (opinion?) is what makes me wonder about Tesla's value. VW, GM, Toyota, Ford, Rivian, et al, are all playing the same game. What are the odds Tesla stays a step ahead of them?

Tesla doesn't even make their own batteries...I do not see the long term value there.

I recently talked to a Tesla fan boy. He owns two of them. He just picked up the new crazy fast version. He said that in the few years he owned his Model S he has not done one thing to it, not even windshield wiper fluid. He evidently has the high end performance software, and he said the little boy in him loves going to the garage in the morning and seeing the software has been updated. He said is is fun to have fart mode in any seat, or even outside the car!

His two boys love it, and and he does warn them to get ready for a launch mode run. Zero to 60 in under two seconds is nuts. All it takes is money and he seems to have it.

Range is not all of it. Battery management is huge and Tesla is years beyond every other manufacturer at this stage. Also the supercharger network is a big Tesla selling point.

Actually not BS at all. The inside of the tire is lined with about 4 of 5 inch layer of noise isolation foam around the circumference of the tire. I saw it when I removed my tires to have the rims powder coated black. I had never seen anything like that before.

I'm amazed how many people don't know about the wheels under the Areo caps.. buy black lug nut covers and center caps and you have a really nice looking wheel there.

His ownership mirrors mine. Zero issues, wife likes mine so much, she just got one.. I personally wouldn't hesitate to buy another one and I'm not a EV/ hybrid car kinda guy.
