After all that wind and a following day of zero temps.....the new snow has about 50 new broken branches on it.
They obviously were not fazed by the weather.

Thinking of climbing the tree and knocking their nest out.

I’m with MRM. Both the squirrels and the spruce are native. If Rocky and his pals were dangerous to spruce trees there wouldn’t be about ten trillion* of both of them in my neighborhood alone. Also, it would take allot of dead branches to make a 35’ spruce tree look sparse, especially if located near other spruces. Finally, if there are bare spots they will fill in, eventually. Your grandchildren’s grandchildren will never notice.

Squirrels are not usually a pest as far as trees go. Now if you want to talk about rodents, the Goddamn ****ing sonofa*****ing worse rodents in the world are the *******, dickwad deer around here! I’m getting a force-field sealed dome armed with nukular explosive devices, napalm and lasers from space to kill every goddamn last one of them sumbeechus.

*exaggeration. Slight but exaggerated nonetheless.

I live in an area that has thousands of other spruce trees (woods on 3 sides of me) for them to build homes in.
Why they decided to pick one in my yard...I don't know.
The mentioned tree is out by itself...and I don't think they fill back in. My arborvitaes don't from deer damage.

If I did the same to them...I would expect to get kicked out. :)

Arbs and spruce are as different as...whatever and whatever.

Arbs are a staple of the stinking, disease-infested rodents that some morons around here feed (illegally).

Though not likely to grow as tall as an Eastern White Piine, Spruces can get big. Really, really big.
