Another Joe Bob Bytche...
Grey market VINs, yes I have the dreaded WPOZZZ vin. DMVs and insurance companies have never heard of the term despite showing a registration card and title showing the VIN#.
The maroons at Liberty wouldn't even give me a quote and the local DMV sent me to the State PoPo for a VIN verification. What a PITA. One State even wanted to assign me a new VIN. Had to speak with a Stupervisor of the Stupervisor for them to accept my documentation. |
Yeah the "O" throws people in insurance and at the DMV. Make sure the paperwork is accurate and it continues to show "O" and not zero for your car. Went through this with Steve's cabby.
Documentation is helpful but any knowledgeable VIN inspector should be able to figure it out. The REAL rodeo was getting the correct title/registration on the spyder... Thought I was going to have to fist fight a truly stupid person at the DMV who insisted that it had to be titled as "salvage" when I had brought in an MSO. Can't salvage a car that doesn't exist... Literally had to escalate it all the way to state level supervisor and provide them their OWN information showing how the car can (and should) be properly titled/registered. Ugly, but worth the fight. angela |
The very same problem exists with Carfax, the 0 was entered as an O. Likely a wrench reporting to the "service" back before I owned it.

The letter O is not used in a VIN, I’m not surprised that they don’t know that.

Or I and Q

Interesting... I had a 78 SC gray market car with zero paperwork and had no issues registering it in Ga. (been several years ago though.. ) Maybe worth a trip to the main building in ATL..

I haven't been to the GA DMV as yet. Even thought I don't NEED a title due to it's age, I want to have one in hand. It got misplaced between here and Colorado. My plates are still valid but if a sharp eyed Statie sees me cruising around to much he may throw the rollers on and pull me over. I do have all the correspondence in my phone with CO and there oopsie we sent it to your addy in CO.
Didpshytes can't open the PDF file I sent them via email. W/10 versus W/8 I guess. Had to mail a hard copy to them certifying the VIN# even their records show it as the same. Maroons. |
