Coca Cola - What do they put in this stuff..

Coca Cola puts me in a hell of a good mood. What do they put in this stuff?

Pepsi doesn't work for me, nor do any of the other cheap Coke knock offs.

Zendalar 04-29-2003 09:30 PM

Maybe they use the real Coca leaves :) Naah, its just the caffeine and sugar kicking in :)

BlueSkyJaunte 04-29-2003 11:21 PM

Hmm....rum and coke?

Captain Morgan, take me away.....!

SilverPoly 04-29-2003 11:24 PM

Coca Cola is mighty tasty. Way better than Pepsi in my opinion.
You can get addicted to all that sugar though.

When they first started manufacturing Coke way back when, didn't they have cocoa in there.. hence the name? Or is that an urban myth?

I'll check snopes.com

Zendalar 04-30-2003 12:45 AM

They put in leaves of Coca tree (they make cocaine from those i think)

Bill Douglas 04-30-2003 01:08 AM

I guess as Zendala says it's the caffine and sugar kicking in but I also suspect it's a minor addiction to one of the artifical flavors or additives they have. I gives me such a "pick you up" feeling I can't wait to have more. The back of the 911 is full of empty coke cans from driving with a coke. It's a wonder I'm not big fat boy - or a diabetic :(

john70t 04-30-2003 02:34 AM

Supposedly it's all natural citrus blend/cinnamon/caramel based with a good heaping of phosphoric acic and corn syrup.
More acid than stomach acid though and uses up a lot of calcium neutralizing it.
They did have coca leaves in it back in the 30s, but then again there was opiates in cough syrup, and the first Levis (early paper and the Mayflower sails) were made of industrial Hemp. Times change.

Drink water or milk. Your teeth won't be stained brown and your body will thank you. Coke is nasty stuff. :)

bell 04-30-2003 05:15 AM

you know back when coca-cola was first founded the original recipie used coca leaves (hence the name)....and was VERY addicting.....
they have since changed the recipie and now it works great for removing corrosion off of battery posts :D

stray15 04-30-2003 05:18 AM

coke tastes awful

CJFusco 04-30-2003 06:48 AM

Whenever i'm feeling tired or depressed, i get a vanilla coke... the choice of Morgan-and-Coke drinkers. Yes i am horribly addicted to caffeine, have been since i started drinking coffee every morning in my sophomore year of HS...

...lately i have had only a cup of tea in the morning and another tea or coke or SoBe later in the day

BTW, Coke still puts coca leaves in the Coke vats, just not enough to qualify as an ingredient - only trace amounts. Coke is the only company in the U.S. that is allowed to import the stuff... some kind of grandfather clause or something.

Coca Cola originally contained cocaine. Fact.

I used to have an unopened bottle of the original "recipie", destroyed in the 1994 Northridge quake along with a lot of stereo equipment.

Coke is a great cleaning agent for rust and corrosion, no joke. Probably due to the carbonation and the ungodly amount of phosphorus.

. . .

I believe it's mostly the carbonic-acid that does the calcium depletion. . . . carbonic-acid is just CO2 in solution.

So does anyone taste the difference between old (1970's) coke and new-old coke ("classic")?

hoff944 04-30-2003 10:12 AM

I heard you can clean your toilet if you pour a can of coke in it and leave it for a while. You can also clean your battery terminals with it and it seems like I heard something about it disolving a tiny bolt if you leave it in a cup of coke over night.

"Coca Cola originally contained cocaine. Fact."

That's what the coca leaf is.

Aurel 04-30-2003 06:55 PM

Here is a list of things that the wonderful chemical properties of Coke allow to do...:p

Bill Douglas 05-01-2003 02:21 PM

Aurel, that web site is a good laugh :) Bill.

Dave951M 05-02-2003 12:33 PM

Also removes blood from the scene of the accident, knew the acid was good for something

Sarah 05-02-2003 01:38 PM

Goodness Bill...you have two beverage threads going....;)

Coke - Has a great bite to it (and yes...it probably could eat battery acid).

Dt. Coke - Don't like it...it hurts my stomach.

Pepsi - Will drink it if Coke is not available.

Dt. Pepsi - Usually my favorite.

Aurel 05-02-2003 02:40 PM

I`ll have to remember using coke to clean my engine case if I ever rebuild it...
