Grosean crashes in first Indy car test
This morning former F1 driver Grosean crashed in his first laps in an Indy car . Apparently into the tire barrier in turn 1 . He was unhurt the car had some damage but was repaired and he returned to the track . Had to be a little scary after the horrific crash he had in F1 . This mornings test was at Barber Motorsports Park with Dale Coyne racing .

Jim Clark once said something along the lines of; if you make a mistake and don't crash you weren't driving hard enough.

I was watching some rally the other day and surprised to see Thierry Neuville still in the game. I havnt payed attention in probably 10 or 12 years I remember he crashed constantly back then. Same with ken block and he is still going strong. I always thought crashing meant you were a bad driver but I guess not? Like Patton said no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country

He didn't have the F1 technology to make him look good. Indy requires you to know how to drive.
I've been to Barber. You really have to screw up big time to crash in turn 1. |

2014 with the new aero regulations made for some very drifty cars. I enjoyed watching the drivers struggle with the cars in both 2014 and 2015. I've been watching less and less since, not sure what things are now. |

There are driver's with different qualities. Some of those qualities come with negatives. A guy willing to push to the limit is gonna off more than a guy that isn't. |
He completed 83 laps with one spin. Completely new car, new tires, new track, recovering from a a major wreck that almost killed him.
I think I'll give him a pass. |

I'm with you on this. I have never understood the Grosjean hate. Maybe he listens to Radiohead? |

I remember all of the **** that Michael Andretti got for his disastrous year in F1, in 1993. To my mind, it resembles what Grosjean has gone through. From the outside, it looks pretty bad, all their fault.
If you actually look at the other side, what they didn't tell you was going on behind the scenes with McLaren in 1993, a different picture emerges. McLaren didn't have their **** together in 1993 and the car was a turd and a half. I lost all respect for Ron Dennis after I learned what went down and he left Michael twisting in the wind. To this day, if I ever run across Ron, I'll be sure and kick him in the ass. |

You know that race pace is different than practice pace, right? In practice, you are practicing to qualify which is completely different from how you drive in traffic or in a race. |

The fact is he didn't really "crash" he slid off into the kitty litter.
He commented after that he's still adapting to the car, which doesn't brake at all like an f1 car (much less downforce thus much longer braking zone) and that the lack of power steering was different. I predict he'll be on the podium somewhere before the season's out. |
Tough crowd.
No one else has ever, ever crashed in their first Indycar outing. Or even an experienced Indycar driver in practice at a track they have run many times before. |
