Polishing, polished Fuchs.

I have let my polished, non chromed, non clear coated Fuchs get a little Fuch'd up. The tub of Mother's isn't doing the job to cut thru the hard water spots and such.

What would the collective recommend that will bring back the shine but NOT be too abrasive and leave scratches?

Is rubbing compound too harsh?

I sanded the anodization off just the outer 1/2" lips of mine (PITA)... tough stuff using various grades then finished with Mothers.

So why not?

When I got my fuchs the po did a crummy polishing job. I sanded them back to 800 or so grit and worked my way up to 2000 grit then finished with mothers.

I read somewhere that mothers is around 3000 grit so might not be aggressive enough to start with.

For aluminium a product called Never Dull works pretty well, or Autosol.

This^

Sandpaper is not the answer unless scratches are the problem. Even then realize that sandpaper is typically aluminum oxide - the same material (and hardness) of the first layer of the aluminum that you sand.

The Never Dull wadding contains chemistry to break thru that thin oxide layer. (wear gloves. don't use on anodized wheels)

Simichrome has been my go to for 40 years:

If you have a buffing wheel, then just white stick rouge.
