Mathematically, we will reach herd immunity by...

If we stay the course in terms of vaccinations, we can mathematically reach herd immunity in the USA by May 12th.

The numbers / data points:
82.6 million people have been vaccinated already.
28.9 million people have gone through COVID-19 already.
-----------
111.5 million people have either been vaccinated or have anti-bodies in their system already.

There are 330 million people living in the US.

Herd immunity for this type of virus occurs around 70-80%. 75% of the US population is 247.5 million people. To get to herd immunity, an additional 136 million people need to be vaccinated/have antibodies to fight the virus.

We are currently vaccinating 2 million people daily. 136 million divided by 2 million = 68 days.

The conclusion:
May 12th is 68 days from now. If we stay the course, we can attain herd immunity by Mid-May.

Check my math - and let me know if I'm missing something.

Disclaimers:
- The calculations do not take into account those who will become immune by getting and recovering from COVID-19 during this time.
- The calculations also do not take into account those who have passed away from COVID--19.

I hope you are correct.

My only question is the 70-80% number. If epidemiologists and infectious disease experts won't/can't answer the question, then I have to wonder what the right number is.

But to me 75% seems low. Regardless, eventually I won't be in the 25% group that are 'at risk'.

I think the numbers will drop very quickly at the 60% mark.

Negative, Ghostrider, Covid-19 Pattern is full...of politics and politicians.

There will be new strains, new mandates, the numbers will be ignored and the WHO and the CDC will continue to obfuscate:

https://www.citizensjournal.us/who-wont-release-interim-report-on-covid-19-origins-amid-growing-scientific-concerns-over-legitimacy-of-its-investigation/

BTW, what is the CDC doing now? I mean, they were caught flat footed by COVID-19, which should have been in their wheel house in terms of their Fing job description: They punted on first down because they didn't do their job. Period.

Any body know besides, "Two Masks"?

Oops. Parf'ed it up. I Zigged when I should have Zagged:)

we are on the 10 yard line of beating this pandemic, and everyone wants to fumble the ball.

every death from january 2021 through the end of this is preventable. wear your mask, dont socialize, and keep social distance. 2000 people a day are dying of a basically totally preventable disease at this point. we've already done a year, whats 2-3 more months to finish this thing off?

island911 03-05-2021 07:26 AM

We magically, and for the first time in human history, achieved herd immunity for the flu.

All we have to do is call the symptoms something else and Bam! no more disease.

Arizona_928 03-05-2021 07:29 AM

Those numbers are low if using rapid test data....

I'll be a bit pessimistic. It'll never go away

And racist too! :D

probably. ;)

Just a note: there is probably significant overlap between people who have had COVID, and people who get vaccinated. So adding the two numbers together gives you an unrealistically large number.

Sooner or later 03-05-2021 07:50 AM

More than 28.9 million have contracted covid in the US. Probably closer to 100 million.

THIS ^

The whole pretext for the masking of asymptomatic EVERYONE is that people get and carry Covid and don't even notice.

This CV has been going around for over a year now and what.. are we to pretend that masks did such a good job that only those who tested positive (who also wore masks) are the only ones who contracted the China Virus?

People really have to contort logic to conclude that only those who tested positive have been exposed.

Not to worry, all will be fine. The current occupant of the Oval Office has restored funding to the WHO. No problema! Grab another beer and relax....

Also, 82.6 million doses have been given. Only 54 million people have received 1 or 2 doses.

The US has been polio free since 1979. Less than 100 cases worldwide each year.

Looks like we better keep the schools closed.

Just one child with polio is one too many... yadda yadda...

cantdrv55 03-05-2021 08:29 AM

Fauci said masks and social distance until 2022.

What about the Spanish flu.... apples to jack fruit to compare sars-cov2 to polio.....

I was actually insinuating towards sars-cov2 to being a seasonal flu ordeal.....

I expect it to be an annual vaccination.
