2021 Ford F150 - rust-eeee

Undercarriages are already rusting out. Ford says it not a problem.

Ford says the problem has no impact on performance or part life. Yeah, just what someone who has 5 years of payments wants to hear!

Two gallons of Fluid Film and some of their special spray tools.

Pay somebody if you are not into it.

My 2004 Volvo S60 ain't got nuttin' as to rust underneath. I don't get it. God bless their cost accountant (Ford).

Rust on a Ford is not new news. GM is right there with them. Most stuff still works but brake lines go at the same time fenders start flapping.

On a '21? That just ain't right, but my last Toyota had some rusty bits too.

Dan J 03-06-2021 03:49 PM

that liquid de-icer they put on the roads now just melts steel

Nostril Cheese 03-06-2021 04:52 PM

This isnt unique to Ford. I've seen surface rust like that that on several new cars, import and domestic.

You are paying what - $85k - for a pickup and it rusts like that? Not acceptable. Unreal.

A930Rocket 03-06-2021 06:40 PM

My F150 looks almost new underneath for a six year old truck

It’s that a northern truck?

908/930 03-06-2021 06:52 PM

That is so sad, reminds me of the new Fords at the dealership in the 70'S with rust on them, my 34 year old BMW has less surface rust on it than the truck in that picture. Ford bean counters at work. Looks like a aluminium plate sitting on top of the springs, possibly galvanic corrosion?

Not my truck, it's a picture from the magazine article. But I'd be saying something to someone at Ford if it was my truck!

When Ford went to all aluminum bodywork, the local dealer wrote “Never worry about rust again” across several new p/u windows. I thought he had lost his mind. Now...Lol.

Yup, especially on cars up North. It’s not a unique issue.

I saw this article before this was posted. I agree that a new truck, regardless of cost, that surface rust is unacceptable. This only gets worse if the truck resides in northern states were salt is used to de-ice roads.

flatbutt 03-07-2021 05:16 AM

I did the Fluid Film treatment on my new Taco before the salt hit this year. I'll get under there and take a look to see how it's doing.

Arizona_928 03-07-2021 07:34 AM

Looks like non coated nuts nor bolts... saving a few pennies end result

speeder 03-07-2021 07:44 AM

That photo shows a ton of rust even on the painted axle tube. It’s really extreme and I have a lot of experience w rust. I don’t miss it at all.

svandamme 03-07-2021 08:36 AM

wait, they are rusted like this
At the time the NEW car buyer takes possession?

Can we rename these the Ford AlfaSud Edition?

I'de get upset if i saw that much rust on my Cayman, and it's a 2007 !!!

Take the tail lights out and fog the top of the inner fenders. Not sure if the Tacoma has that access. Some trucks have a support plate behind the lights.
