Preliminary Medicare... rang my bell... wtf?
I did something earlier I almost never do ... answered my doorbell when I saw an obvious salesperson, etc. (without a pistol in hand :D ... but I digress). She asked if I was "K", and said she knew I wasn't "old enough" but was it was concerning the thread title. I'm still quite a few years away (5ish).
What was she selling? There was another guy in the passenger seat of the car blocking my driveway.... so they drove just to see me. I feel so special .... what's the scam... selling ins.? My dawg was going nutz so I shut it down quickly and shut the door.... sorry, not interested :(. It just seemed a bit strange.... Thoughts? |
^^^ Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.
They will just move to the next home to distribute the winnings....so sorry! |
Probably medigap insurance. When you hit 63-65...they are like the people that want to buy your house to flip that call all the time. Must be a pretty good commission. It is like an arms race as they keep hitting people younger and younger...and use really old celebrities on TV that assure other goofy old clueless folks sign up for stuff they don't need (and send them money).

It is illegal to sell insurance door to door in many states.

I have a no trespassing sign right at the base of my front steps.
We don't get a lot of solicitors here but I try to nip it in the bud anyway. At some point I will construct some kind of gate which will preclude entry. Haven't reached that stage of reclusion quite yet - but getting there fast!!! |
Nobody ever comes up the steep private road to my house.
At my old place, if anybody unexpected came to the door, I would take a picture of their face with my phone as soon as I open the door before saying a word. Always started them. Told them if anything unfortunate happens in the neighborhood, I'm sending their picture to the sheriff as a likely suspect. They would nervously make their pitch, and scoot away quickly. |
I have a sign on my front door that says "Not Interested: This is a house where a gun lives"

Medicare doesn't do that. I'd report it.

Here in the Sewer things are getting bad with open street robberies and home invasions. I have 2 low gates (42") to my front porch and both are locked 24/7. Amazon, et al, just drops the goods over the wall in a designated blind spot (when they follow the instructions about 60% of the time). Everything is locked down, even inside. I'm just short of installing the razor wire. Just kidding, it's illegal. |
This one is easy. You and your property were being scoped out for purposes of a another visit, either by the "young lady and her friend" or most likely, by a full crew with a box van...
|
Be careful if a hot chick comes to your door asking about your vacuum cleaner. If you say you're interested in hearing about her vacuum cleaner, she's says she'll go get it and then some dude comes back with a vacuum. That dude did not have a pleasant experience at my house!

KC - I expect that was just a "scam" as far as being a really bad deal on Medigap / supplemental insurance. I know when my parents were on Medicare they had a supplemental plan that significantly reduced their prescription costs.
I'm about as rural as you can get between Allentown and Philadelphia. Oddly, I have Mormon, Jehovah's Witness and 7th Day Advent churches within 2 miles of me - so most of the solicitors I see are selling their church. I'm not buying. I did have a very cute young lady come up the driveway in the fall to sell a different garbage collection company. When I told her to go away she asked if she could come back at a different time. I can't imagine any of those salesmen are very successful. |
I do think she was probably just selling insurance, but dang... Medicare already :D? I have seen plenty of "casing the 'hood" types over the past decade though.... they had better pick a different 'hood ... I have spidey senses ;).

Once you get past age 64 the medicare calls and email and paper mailings start flooding in. Phone calls are constant, so is snail mail.
It is very annoying, and 10 times worse than the calls about your car's warranty. Once you get over the age of 65 hump, it all stops, they figure you have done the insurance by then. |
