Rockabilly pioneers
Here they are circa 1958..The Collins kids, Larry & Lorrie, doing a Chuck Berry cover.
Larry a seasoned pro guitarist before his teens...I'd guess him to be about 12 here. Love those Chuck Berry dance moves while carefully not stepping on the guitar feed cord. Lorrie was Ricky Nelson's girlfriend for a couple of years. Alas, she's no longer with us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cZ1TYUK8T8 (edit) Want another? Here they are doing one that had me "discover" them. It's on a box set of car songs I bought. Here she actually was only 13 or 14, Larry so young his voice hadn't changed yet, so could harmonize with sis. Title "Hot rod"... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CflFhAox2RQ

Chuck Berry don't rock no Rolex. He has the good taste to sport a Hamilton to the pool hall and back again. Feast your eyes on this Thin-O-Matic.
https://www.watchuseek.com/threads/identify-watch-worn-by-chuck-berry.4359722/ Sadly, the Collins kids play a mean guitar and sing like a ring in a bell, but they don't hold no truck with any watch brand.

I remember being in Nashville, listening to a kick a$$ rockabilly guitarist, who, blatantly made fun of the cheesy commercialized country music coming out of the very town he was playing in.
I loved every second of it! ![]() |

On the other end of that, Brian Setzer is about the only one really keeping it going. I saw his Xmas show a few years ago and he was fantastic.

Brain Setzer is not only an amazing guitarist, he's always been one hell of a good teacher too. At about 4:10-to end- he just takes off. Take notes. There will be a quiz later!

Leaky, could that guitarist have been Larry Collins? Stuff I've read on him has some pros saying he was a boy genius who only got better with age...a true top talent. Never made the real big time...Lorrie marrying too young to Johnny Cash's manager when she was 18, he twice her age, may have been a factor. Sure no argument from me on Setzer's talent level either. Music a fickle thing...I believe there are top talent guitarists out there who never made it as big a lesser talents.

You know....you don't have to click. Also, this isn't the military and you are NOT my commanding officer. Got that?
If you want to ride somebody's ass, there are plenty of hookers in PDX. Go hire one.

I wish, but I think my guy was much younger. It was one of the smaller/older bars in town. Listened as long as I could. Wife wanted to hit several other places, because our time was limited, but I was transfixed. This was at least 10 years ago.

Wow! Had no idea Setzer had such a huge fan base in Japan. Polite crowd...noisy only when there is a break in the music. Obviously they were there for the music. No argument from me on his top level guitar talent. His version of Blue Moon of Kentucky (50 minutes mark or so) blew me away. Thanks for that link. Well worth the time. Also didn't know Dick Clark did a show before Bandstand. Learn new old stuff every day. Long may rockabilly live...
I'd imagine that Larry Collins misses his sister terribly...may she, a genuine American cutie, rest in peace. I'd also bet he can't do those dance moves today...father time beats us all.

I saw Deke when he played here back in 2001. Still have the poster on my garage wall.
