Didn’t know that. Have had few routers I’ve done this with but it’s usually when it’s on its way out anyway.

I've updated firmware when one becomes problematic but if you search I think there's a pretty common theme "help! I bricked my router during a firmware update!"

I think it normally boils down to a weird act of god where you're doing an update and your power goes out at just the wrong time. But honestly I think people just get impatient and cycle the power on the router because they think the router is stuck during the update.

If I was a software developer I'd have DON'T TOUCH IT pop up on the screen every 60 to 90 seconds. Or maybe "back away from the power button and remain calm"

Except my wife did NOT perform another reset this morning , she did hers yesterday but it didn't fix her computer until today . I did the same reset yesterday but my computer did not connect this morning . I did an additional reset this morning and it connected . As you stated may never know the true cause or correction for sure.

Settings had a timer set to expire in a day I believe.

Network connections are on a timer which can expire and ‘reset’ on its own. I think someone mentioned this earlier. So the extra day did the reset automagically instead of issuing those commands manually which would have done the same.
