Getting old sucks

Step 1. Cologuard

Step 2. Colonoscopy

The nurse made a comment as the doctor signed me up for this crap.

"Now you know how we feel, every year!"

Getting old sucks...

Beats the hell out of the alternative though....

Chocaholic 03-21-2021 08:17 AM

Yep...not getting old is even worse.

Maybe not...a 77, have everything I need or want, no desire to travel or do much. Tired of the medical issues and very sick & tired of seeing the country being purposely destroyed by idiots.

Like the line in the "old man river" song...tired of livin', scared of dying...

Oh, you have no idea. A colonoscopy is a walk in the park compared to constant arthritis pain, sleep issues, hearing loss, and periodic prostate biopsies, all of which will could well be in your future. Enjoy your yoot while you still have it.

Toss cataracts, glaucoma, and age related Macular degeneration into that mix as well..
Yep...the "kids" ain't seen nothin' yet...

Getting old is not for sissies.

Chocaholic 03-21-2021 09:19 AM

Damn...you guys are depressing. I’m heading over to the SI swimsuit thread!

Not much future in it as well.

Other critters in the world are very stoic about aging and treated different.
If they are lucky, they get a sympathy bullet. We all might get a cute sponge bath nurse.

with the exception of my knees - I'm in fairly good shape for 71.. knees are shot though.. yeah - I know of knee replacement , but not a fan of the knife .. I'm currently getting the steriod/ lube shots in my knees and they help some.. but knees are still shot.. That's what 30 years Army - Airborne SF.. too much rucksack humping.. 1000+ parachute jumps.. too much abuse over the years..

Last I checked, you have the right to say "no"

Depressing is reading the SI Swimsuit issue and stopping here.

I get it.
I find my loss of enthusiasm for the things I loved to be depressing. Some days it's almost a chore to go down to the shop and work on the cars. I've always been a "car guy" but I find all the bending and twisting and crawling around that working on cars entails is too painful for it to be any fun any more.

McLovin 03-21-2021 09:24 PM

I figured that out at a very early age.
Which is why my goal since 16 years old was to figure out a way to retire by 50. I worked hard every day of my life to make that happen.
5 years in, at 55, I ain’t gonna lie, it was life changing and worth every drop of blood sweat and tears (which from 16 to 50 were often considerable). Yea, like everyone I’m gonna get old, but damn every day of my 50s so far have been heaven on earth, and god willing to have 25, 30 or more years of this is amazing and I’m grateful for that every single day.
The model of work til you’re almost 70, then die at 77 never seemed like a good deal to me. Even as a teenager looking ahead.

I have no fear of death, I'm more afraid of not living.

Great thread thanks. Coming up to 75 this year. Old enough to get my first covid shot.
I try to get about an hour of exercise a day whether it be walking or cycling. Am on a total of three meds now which is not too bad. Staying in a house versus a condo helps. Lots of yard work whether it be grass cutting, pulling weeds or busting concrete. Keeping my weight down helps. Feel pretty good.
Cheers, Guy

I feel great at 63. THC-based cream has helped dramatically.

GH85Carrera 03-22-2021 05:02 AM

Getting old sucks, but most everyone figured it is better than dying.

One of the many annoying things is how easily my skin will rip and bleed with just a bump. My brother carries several band-aids in his wallet and it is a rare day he make it through the day without a "bleeder" on an arm. I am not quite that bad, but working on my car always had some blood involved.
