Dumschizzlez systems for Mopars

The automaker is rolling out a new two-factor authentication system for its 6.4-liter and supercharged 6.2-liter V8-powered Challenger and Charger models that will only allow them to run at idle until the driver inputs a four-digit code into the uConnect infotainment system screen.

The idea is to foil the growing number of thefts that are being accomplished by spoofing remote keyfobs with intercept devices that steal their codes, or when owners simply leave them in or near their cars.

The high-power Challengers and Chargers are common targets for thieves. A few have even been stolen straight from the factory parking lot.

The cars can still be started and driven without the second-level security entered, but the 675 rpm restriction limits them to 2.8 hp and 22 lb-ft of torque, which is slightly less than the 485-807 hp and 475-707 lb-ft the engines are capable of.

If'n yew and yer cuzin still have it after 6 years....

The security system will start rolling out on new models before July and owners of current cars back to the 2015 model year can bring them to a dealer to get a free upgrade.

Sounds like a great idea. You could have a 100 hp code level that is the only code you give your kid, and you could keep the code for full functioning to yourself.

I'm not confident that the mouth breathers at Mopar could come up with something as sophisticated as anything above limp dick code.

Those Mopars arent very impressive up close (build wise).

I'd rather have the new Camaro if we are talking retro design.

Considering the Uconnect is one of the best out there...

Also, look at what they did back in the day for the B29, Saturn series, Abrams tanks.

Plus, Power Wagon. The real one.

Same guys that designed my ECU in a Jeep Gran Cherokee. Total FU failure whilst going down a hill on a curve. My use of the manual cable e-brake saved me and my three kids from broadsiding a Ferrari.

No warranty, no offer of rebuild....full jolt no discount. Fucherz.

The Volare negates all of that.

I am not a Mopar guy by a long mile, but I think the Challengers look awesome.

The Hellcat body with the fender flares should have been standard across the board..

I thought the Hellcats had a black "wife" key that cut the power in half.

Seems pretty much like the Tesla pin-to-drive, which is optional, you can turn it on or not if you're worried about that, and I think it may even be location aware, or valet mode, which locks glovebox and trunks and sets the car to chill mode - 200hp limit.

It'd be pretty annoying if they didn't make it optional on these, but if they are getting stolen from dealer lots, I can certainly see it being defaulted.

Uggh. All this stuff annoys the crap outta me. Ask anyone with an early oughts Duc with the stupid immobilizer that requires that the dash, ecu and key all be coded together, or the guys with 90's benz's that don't have the transponder fob any longer and MB is "temporarily" unable to supply keys...

I want to get into a car and go, not wait for a nanny system to allow me to input a security code to be able to leave my own driveway...what a PITA !

Hell Yeah!! I wanna get in a car and go too! Let's do without the key you are forced to have before you can start your own damn car!

Actually would be a good feature to be able to enact in case of a car jacking...but my Mustang already has an anti car jacking system. A manual transmission..

That's not why your car has never been stolen or car-jacked.
