Point being, here in the Long Beach Sewer there are disabled cars everywhere. Even the wealthiest part of town next to the private country club I can show you more than one permanently parked truck or van. I know, I tried to buy one of them as it was a '70's Ford PU. The guy across the alley from me just sold an '84 Chevy 3/4T that sat until the tires rotted. There's a Bronco 2 doors down just off the alley pavement that has been there for 3 or so years. If our Code Enforcement can't do anything about the obvious, then the business of personal automotive tools is a non-issue. |
^ Code Enforcement is selective. They go after the people who can pay. If you don't believe me, I can post about $14K worth of fines. I went in there and threw a brick of cash on the counter like Sonny on "The Godfather".

The city. We made a deal. By "we" I mean me. They wanted payment within literally a few hours. It was weird, weird weird. But it was a great deal in the end. I'm their new best friend and we got a new city manager.

I'd ask you to define "minor" but you're just ignore and lie about it anyhow. "Minor" to these guys means checking tire pressure. PS Weeb, I'd bet they'd just ticket your car or tow it. Wouldn't blame 'em ;) rjp |
Basically, running a mechanic shop out of your home is not allowed.
I don't see any issues here. I don't want my neighbor running a mechanic shop out of his home. |

What does DIY stand for, again?
I'd say the article actually has it right unlike a few of the bright ones here who seem to think it means something else.
Hide your Torque Wrenches, Nancy Pelosi is coming! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1616715317.png |
My original post was about the right to repair electronic parts and appliances by commercial repair shops. I used the auto repair industry as a "model of cooperation" between manufacturers, the repair industry and including home hobbyists and DIYers with a somewhat free flow of tech data, specifications, repair procedures and parts. A billion dollar auto parts industry supports the right to fix your vehicle whether it's your car or a customer's. DO HOAs, RE lobbyists and ?? exert that much control over Sacramento politics?
Cooperation evidently isn't the case with your electronic device. One example showed how an expert attempt to repair a laptop keyboard automatically destroys the device. Other examples include an ordinary component repair that requires unnecessary replacement of an expensive main circuit board (aka planned obsolescence), according to the Genius's at the official repair counter. The source for these policies lies with a group who wants to limit other groups (users included) by using trade secret claims. "Hey, you can't replace my inop cigarette lighter .... or USB port because I don't want you to download the code in my ECM .....or my operating system. Money is usually a good catalyst for this POV power grab. Greed knows no bounds. I wonder how that Sacramento law would fly in a state like Texas (e.g. Houston). AFAIK, zoning laws between commercial and residential properties are non-existent. Am I correct? |

The code. The county regulation. you know, the law... Next time, look it up before shooting off your pie-hole. You will not look so stoopid then. |

also appears to be some ambiguity in the code provison but it is not what the fake hysterical article claims, much less what the fake hysterical poodle-posters here are claiming OTOH, who wants to live in sacramento anyway? |

Sacramento is basically saying, "I know it's your house and it's your private property, but in addition to only allowing you to paint your house some shade of brown, we can now restrict where you can work on your car."
Ain't 'merica great? |

Did anyone actually READ the thread in question?
You have an outside car that is not movable for 24 hrs. This likely means on jack stands for more than 24 hrs. I agree, I don't want cars on jackstands all over the neighborhood for months on end. You are working on vehicles that are not registered to the address. This is likely to reduce that "for profit" operations in the neighborhood like running a CL ad that you will do brake jobs for $100 at your house. I agree. But then there is a guy down the street with a circle drive that has 9-11 cars parked in his driveway looking like a used car lot. Tarp over a couple of them because the windows in the door don't roll up, etc. No one wants to live next to the hoarder with an auto graveyard on his front lawn. The poster was asked what he was doing when he was cited, and he refused to divulge that information. Proves he is full of crap, and just freaking out about his freedumbs. The poster is a liar. He has a barn with a lift, yet claims he's not doing automotive work? Yea, ok. He is also a passive aggressive teenager: "I am going to start doing major automotive repair immediately and make as much noise as possible, starting with running a leaf blower all day long every day because that is not a code violation." After others kept pressing the issue, he finally admits he's got wrecks of cars scattered around his property. Everyone in that thread agreed with the complaint. Quote:
Look at 4:05. There are 2 neighbors right on that property line. They have to look at the veritable junkyard this clown hoarder is storing on his yard. Trailer that has not been registered in 50 years, unregistered cars, projects that will never be completed, cars that need engines. You describe your intent to install a trolley hoist in the barn, and use inadequate used building materials to build a structure. Not to mention the nearby pond which is likely used to irrigate food and crops being contaminated by your “projects”. Sorry man. You are the textbook reason of why laws like that get written in the first place. |
I know a guy who has 15 cars scattered around his .25 acre yard. 4 more cars parked in the street. Most of he cars are unregistered and do not run. If he had more money, he'd pack in even more junk. His house is an eyesore in the neighborhood. I asked why his neighbors don't complain. He does not give a damn about anyone but himself.
