HELP...... couldnt leave well enough alone/ STEREO.. LONG!
Ok...... I've exhausted my limited idea's and am turning to the famed brain-trust here on Pelican. I probably should have come here from the get go.
Sooooo here is the back story, hopefully I can esplane it well. Saw a GREAT deal on Alpine Tweeters and I bought them. The sound system I have in my bucket of bolts is perfectly fine, sounds great. NO NEED TO ADD OR REPLACE. But that would only make sense so I bought the tweeters. I have ZERO experience installing sound system components. I figure... tweeters are small, easy to mount, couple of wires..... WHAT COULD GO WRONG? It will be quick and easy and better sound, OK let's get to it. So Installed the Driver-side tweeter.... turned on the system... WOW... sounds great! I love it..... then I figure why not read the manual and fine tune the system for even BETTER sound...... off I go and start messing with the settings on the Deck.... WOW WOW WOW... sounds awesome... proud of myself. SSSOOOOOO in the middle of all this, something totally unrelated makes me have to change out my car battery... and I do. Nothing to report here, car was off, stereo was off, no issues... simply changed out the car battery. THEN I TURNED ON MY NEWLY TUNED AND NEW TWEETER AWESOME SOUNDING SYSTEM...... except it doesnt sound awesome........ As a matter a fact, the door speakers and tweeters have NO sound coming from them! NOTHING! My system is set up as follows: Head Unit Powers: Front door speakers Front door tweeters AMPLIFIER Powers: Rear Subwoofer So the rear sub is getting power and signal. The front door speakers and tweeters have no signal, completely dead, no sound. So far this is what I have checked (and re-checked, and checked again)
I dont really know where to go from here, unless the front channels inside the dead got fried somehow. ALSO..... important to note... BOTH right and left side doors set ups ARE not working.... I never touched the passenger side. Leads me to believe its something to do with the head-unit... or a fuse between the deck and the speakers. BTW... I am already resolved to the idea that I will need to replace the dead head unit or the system so at this point I'm trying to make it a fun project to find the issue and if I do then I'm ahead of the game. Today I am going to run a voltmeter to the speakers to see of they are getting any power......... I've run out of ideas. I really dont want to focus on how big of a FUCH-UP I caused as I really like my deck. I recently added Bluetooth and (what I think is a cool) USB SET-UP on my center console using existing knobs. SSOOOOO I really don't want to mess up all that work too..... ![]() Any suggestions or help? (Please keep from criticizing me, this is very light hearted on my part and trying to have fun cleaning up the rookie mistake I committed) Pre-H20 |

Pull the speakers that you worked on (tweeters) and check to see if it works with them hanging out.
If so...you have a terminal grounding out. Had the same happen with my Fit....one small metal to terminal will shut off the sound.

I took that as you meant the problem is fixed.
Tape that terminal up good and bend it in for clearance...re-install.

if you are referring to the terminal ON the tweeter.... the terminal is not exposed, it is inside the tweeter casing..... the only other terminal is the one that is connected to the crossover and it is clear and seated with no interference by any other wires.

Is there a power wire that was hooked direct to your battery that you missed when you did the swap?

The deck is a Alpine
Speakers: MB QUART with MB Quart cross-overs in the doors. Tweeters: Alpine |

^^^ ok..then that eliminates what my Fit was doing. I also have an Alpine deck in it.
(but your symptoms are exactly what mine were. Front right speaker terminal was barely touching. I had upgraded to a deeper depth speaker..causing the prob.)

Steve..... my apologies i mis-read, misunderstood what you asked.
So.... with the tweeter hanging out of the door, I connected the tweeter to a 2nd stereo outside of the car and the tweeter worked as its supposed to, when reconnected to the stereo in the car, no sound. |

Is there a power light on the amp? Some people also use the power antenna up/down power.
Edit. Head unit comes on as that powers your door speakers.

911 Rod.... I totally agree with you..... this system has been intact for 25 years and never ever had a problem or issue.... the components are great quality stuff.
Until I "upgraded it" and got my paws on it... now I dont even have sound.... RRRRR. "Maybe there is a join a couple feet from the battery that you disturbed? " what is a join? |

911, YES there is a power light light on the Amp.... it is on when the stereo is turned on.
(BTW I opened up the amp and replaced the fuses inside the amp, 2 were bad) but the AMP is NOT wired to the door speakers at all, it only drives the subwoofer. the wires going out of the amp ONLY go to the subwoofer, nothing to the doors.) |

During your work...did you disturb any of the other speakers? As in possibly one of the others shorting out by terminal touching metal?
It sure sounds like a shorted speaker to me. With my Alpine deck, one shorted speaker causes a complete shutdown of the others.
