Pfizer & Moderna stop the spread!
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-03-29/pfizer-moderna-vaccines-prevent-infections-in-real-world-study
Pfizer, Moderna Vaccines Stop Infections in Real-World Study Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer Inc. and Moderna Inc. effectively prevented coronavirus infections, not just illness, with substantial protection evident two weeks after the first dose, government researchers said. Two doses of the vaccines provide as much as 90% protection against infection, according to data from U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study published Monday. Earlier clinical trials had established that the shots also prevent illness, hospitalizations, and deaths. The study adds to evidence that new vaccines made with messenger RNA technology actually reduce the spread of the virus in real-world conditions. An earlier study in Israel found a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine reduced infections by as much as 85%. The study is “tremendously encouraging” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said in a briefing, and new findings “underscore the importance of getting both of the recommended doses of the vaccine in order to get the greatest level of protection against COVID-19, especially as our concerns about variants escalate.” |
I'm not getting it!
You knew that was coming so I thought I'd get it out of the way and just post it. For my real reply, more good news on the vaccine front! Hopefully more folks will get it when it's available to them. |
There had already been several studies in the UK on Astra-Zeneca showing this. But the CDC and the usual suspects kept hedging. Finally, we know that vaccinations stop the spread of disease.

Cindy & I had our 2nd moderna shots yesterday. A but if sore all over feeling today, but nothing major. I do feel bad enough to postpone some planned yard work though...Once we've had the full post shot couple of weeks...I see no reason to wear a mask.

Mrs. Beard had her second shot yesterday. I'm been keeping an "update" log in a thread that is unfortunately in PARF. Maybe I'll copy them here in a single post.

Downside up

I got my second dose today. GTG! If this makes me NOT spread or catch this, whatever happens happens.

Vash, give us a run down tomorrow how you are feeling.

My second Pfizer is April 12.
If I don’t post after 4/12 you’ll know why. If I do, you’ll also know why. Like anybody cares. |
I think the FDA still classifies it as an 'experimental' vaccine.
And the federal government accepts all liabilities. YMMV. Plan accordingly. |
I worked a clinic out here last week and helped hundreds of folks register to get their Pfizer! Felt good to see how excited people are to get this thing, and felt even better to get my first dose too! Go back for my second on 4/12! Now we are just waiting for the two teenagers to be eligible!
Please everyone keep wearing a mask until this spread is under control! You can still be a carrier once you are vaccinated and potentially infect someone that is unvaccinated. If you are hanging out with vaccinated folks that’s fine, but out in public please stick with the mask, at least for the sake of our healthcare workers who’ve been fighting so hard to save so many lives over the last year! |

Is there one vax that you would suggest over others, for someone caring for an elderly parent? |

A week from today for our 2nd Pfizer. No ill effects from the first and expect none from the next one either. I will be glad when it's over and I can cross another item off of my list of things to get accomplished.
The article is certainly good news. However, I suspect that it will be disputed by a a lot of people, for various reasons. No point saying any more or this will end up in PARF. |
I got the second Moderna shot 2 weeks ago. Felt pretty bad the next day but got over it. I feel it was worth it. I need to get back to my normal.

I’ll keep my mask on. Besides, my “take it easy. I’m vaccinated badge” isn’t ready yet. :) Isn’t corona regaining a foothold in the UK? They are vaccinating as well, right? |

In NJ, for example, most cases have been in the 30-49 age groups, while deaths were 80+ My sister, a college professor, reports surges at the local colleges. A group that tends to be social, and not getting the vaccine. NJ, cases up, deaths down. The only conclusion I can reach with limited data available is those (of us) vaccinated are not dying. |
dad911: NJ ranks 20th in the US states in terms of percentage of population vaccinated. Major FAIL on Murphy and his administration, especially when you factor in that we are the most crowded state, and as we know, crowded areas allow greater spread of the virus.
red: that is great news! Thanks for posting! |
I get my first Moderna Friday. I checked around and all they had in my area was Moderna or Pfizer. I wanted J&J (one and done) but couldn't find it anywhere. Just glad I'm on my way to being invincible again!
