It was shorted, or open inside, that is why he had circuit codes .

I didn't put a meter on it but the way it was cracked on both sides, I'd say there was a catastrophic meltdown.

I don't know why they melt/burn up. Recent Ford Escape coolant solenoid melted so badly it was leaking coolant.

I don't see this on other cars. They just shiet the bed and don't work.

I'll hit it with my meter and see but I'd guess the coil is toast. Swelling and cracking on electrical usually means it's kaput.

Curious the Accord has no entry for 0446 in the DTC service manual. 0442 0443 0455-7 0498-9 yes.
