The green stuff works pretty well .

Fred, this is over twice as powerful/effective as Simple Green. I mix it 3:1 water/zep and it cuts through grease better than anything. You need to wear a proper mask when spraying otherwise you will burn your lungs out.

I have a 5 gallon pail of Green Zep HD all purpose cleaner . I do not know if it is as good as the purple stuff, but it burns my skin when I get it on, and it will discolor enamel paints . It is pretty mean stuff .
I also dilute it .

Zep had some citrus based cleaner that makes the purple stuff look like you're applying water. I used another one by a company down in TN (I think). Problem is, the stuff would lift paint if you weren't careful. The other problem is, the stuff is expensive IIRC.

That sounds just like the purple.

Shaun,
Have you ever tried Purple Power from Autozone or Walmart? I use that stuff almost exclusively but again have to be careful because like the Zep, it will discolor enamel paint.

I have been recently studying so called orange oil based cleaning products. The reason is that Zep Original Orange Hand Cleaner works very well for cleaning finishes on some of the antique furniture that I work on. I'm speaking about products that contain pumice.

I'm getting low so I thought I'd compare the product to other popular OO based hand cleaners. (BTW, d-limonene is the chemical that comprises over 90% of what they are calling OO, and it's powerful. It is an irritant as well. It is found in all citrus.) For this kind of study I will include and weigh heavily on Amazon reviews. Some complaints on Amazon are that the Zep product does not clean hands as well as the Permatex product, Fast Orange. That might be why I should stay with Zep. IDK.

The variety of products relying on d-limonene are numerous including paint and varnish stripper. You can buy d-limonene in just about pure form so theoretically you can make whatever compound you wish to make and use for your specific purpose.

IOW, orange oil products are over 90% hype. They ae effective but everyone is on the bus trying to out-market the next guy when it's all pretty simple.
