Liar Liar Pants on fire!

Mig welding yesterday, let my guard down and some sparks caught the bottom of my jeans on fire.

At first I thought the heat was just some splatter. Lucky, I put it out with a few swats, and only have a 2" or so blister.

It's funny how "Fabricator, Fabricator, pants on fire ",doesn't have the same ring.

Glad you escaped with minor damage.

It's even better when it goes down in your ear, and you get to hear the wax crackle

Never caught myself on fire but melted through my shoes on a few occasions.

Good thing you weren't wearing any synthetic fiber. Stuff like that will melt on your skin any then you're in big time trouble. Cotton is by far the best other than leather. Treated cotton is better still .

Poly is the worst ever. Banned in all shops and schools.

Edit: I googled "What is satin fiber?" and it's style of weave. There is no such thing as satin cloth, so your question can't be answered. If in doubt, light something synthetic on fire like a Nylon rope. It just melts.

Damn good working jeans too. The knees weren't even worn through yet.

Put the welding blanket next to the welder, maybe next time I'll actually use it.

Speaking of lighting yourself on fire...

One cold winter day, my dad (Rest in Peace) was sweat soldering some copper pipe in the attic (because the house had no basement). He was all scruched up and busy torching when he noticed the flickering of flames in the foil-sided pink insulation batts.

"Something's burning up here!

But he could not find any fire. So back to the torch his attention went. Then, again he saw the fire in the reflection but he again could not find any flame. Spooky.

Then the back of his head got real hot. Like on fire hot.

He had somehow managed to catch his woolen knit hat on fire.

He did put the fire out without serious injury or damage.

I’ve given myself a couple of hot foots, when the hot metal got in my topsides. They make nice little holes in your skin and take months to heal.
