1970 Volvo 145S (4 speed manual) on BAT - auction just started today

CLICK

If I hadn't purchased the 850, I would be interested in pursuing this one as it's the right year 145 plus has the manual transmission and looks to be in good nick. Not crazy about the wheels but they can be changed easily enough.

your threads are dangerous.

My dad's 145 had the same blue interior. I could live with the wheels
Nice rack.

Looks like the original steel wheels come with the car as does the original steering wheel! Also looks like there are a few leaks. Right up your ally there, LEAKY!

I wouldn't have it any other way! Digging the rear windows too.
Interesting garden tractor like choke.

They only had those pop out rear windows on the '69 and '70, which is one reason those are my 2 fav. 145 years.

I had one of mine fall off on the way home from Daytona on a date late one night back in the '80s. This was my green '70. I went back the next day and found it in the grass medium and re-attached it. Ah memories....

And yeah - it won't start without that choke...lol.....

When I saw the image on the first post my first thought was "I know that car". I have seen the car multiple times when my wife and I have been out for a jaunt. Then I saw in the listing that the car is in New Preston. It is about 30 minutes from here. There are some great driving roads there. It is pretty close to Lime Rock.

Cool! It's a very distinctive Volvo model anyway but having the extra driving lights in front and back - plus that very cool roof rack really helps it stand out!

So far the auction is up to $1,970 with only 2 bids. This one should reach at least $10K, I would think.

The seller added this additional info on the car's history:

Quote:
This 145S has had an interesting life and it is one of the reasons I was compelled to rescue her. Originally purchased by Sally O., an educator, After about a year after she purchased her she went on Sabbatical to London. Of course, the 145S went along with her. From that life experience, she accepted a position at Stanford and moved to Palo Alto until 1987. She returned to New England and shortly after, she retired her traveling companion to the shop owner that cared for it. It lived in the back of his shop until my friend convinced the shop owner to sell. That’s where I stepped in. We have almost all of the repair orders including one from a shop in London.

Incredible video- looks like it was done by pros at "The Asphalt Icons." Used a drone, I guess. Nice!

Baz- I'd buy that car if it's reasonable and sell your 850.

Durn, that's a nice one. But being on BaT with a professional level presentation like that, it will go for absolutely retarded, slap-your-mother crazy money. You can bet on it.

Video was pretty good but I would have added a few more things.

Show the turning radius.

Demonstrate how to fold the back seat forward to open up the back.

While hood is open and camera rolling - grab the carb linkage and gun that B20 a few times so you can hear the side draft carb suck!

Open up those rear side windows!

I'd also take that baby on a more aggressive course and do a lot more shifting up and down through the gears.

Just a few thoughts I had....

The 850 is superior to the 145 in every way. Now that Baz has had a taste of that 8fitty deliciousness, he’ll prob never sell it.

And I’d wager his desire for a 145 is just a tad diminished. Baz will still lust after one, till he’s rolling along quietly, comfortably, in cruise control, ac blasting away.

They’re equally awesome cars, just way different.

I've gotta admit. I love the looks, but I'd also have a hard time without the AC.

And that video- If that actually makes people bid, I'm not competing against that.

Especially the 20mph body roll at about 34seconds in. There was another scene in the video where he got to a twisty turny, and they had to cut the tape before he transitioned from a low speed right corner into a low speed left as not to show it heave from side to side.

If I bought that car, the first thing I'd do is strip it bare, full up restoration and add some friggin' swaybars, and all new bushings, and brake lines, and gas lines, and .............. ........ ....... ........ ........

And if I'm going to spend that much time on something, it will be a porsche.

Baz, stop posting videos like that. Toying with my volvo wagon loving soul!

I was literally cutting it up in my mind (*ahem* improving) and that's too nice of an example to butcher like I would.

edit- I remember measuring the wheelbase of an earlier vette chassis- I think the first year with the transmission in the rear, like a 944, and iirc, it's very similar to a 145/245 in length. The width was off though. Maybe I should go measure a 944.

These are the things I think about at 2 a.m. . Why God Why????

there is pace for hot rod parts for old Volvos - ipd?

I'm sure there are some engines with turbos that will fit

people have shoved later Motronic BMW motors into 2002's and CS's, so...

Well I've owned two 145's and have never felt the need to "improve" on the original design.

It's a great car just the way it came from the factory.

Geezus........
