Do you believe this?

A report from the APA of adults living the last year under covid restrictions.
How can the average weight gain be 29 lbs.?? (Same goes for the avg loss.)

"(American Psychological Association)
According to the APA, 42% report gaining more weight than intended, while 18% said they lost more weight than they wanted.

The average amount of weight gained was 29 pounds, while the average amount lost was 26 pounds.

Besides eating more, medical experts say weight can be affected by a change in sleep and increased alcohol consumption."

I've gained/lost nothing. Then again, my life really didn't change during COVID (and I've been the same weight for roughly 20 years).

To gain 29 lbs in one year....I would need a cork.

The first couple weeks during the lockdown, the snack food aisle was picked over good. I wanted to buy a bag of M&Ms to do a tax joke on counting and couldn’t find a single bag!

I probably could sit around doing nothing but eating and gain 29#, but I don't think there's any way that I would do that. I think I did gain about 5# early on, and I've since lost it.

If I gained 29lbs in one year...I would expect to be dead soon.

Maybe with all their free time, people are hitting the gym and it's muscle mass they're adding.

Coming out of HS and going into college, I think I was ~175. I think I dipped down as low as 165 in college because I got tired of the cafeteria food. I think I was then ~185 for a bunch of years. In the last 25 years, I've probably ranged anywhere from 180-205 or maybe 210. I wasn't 200+ for long. Once I realized that I'd gotten that heavy, I lost weight. For the past 15 years, I've probably been 180-195. I'm just under 6'2".

I put on a few pounds. But I did that before C19. I go up and down. Right now I'm trying to lose 15 lbs. No big deal.

Left HS around 145. Put on 30 pounds in basic training, then went to Korea where I lived in the gym when I wasn't working. Left there around 245. Maintained that weight during my time in the Army. Dropped down to a "light" 225 after getting out of the Army and not working out quite as much. Been there ever since. If I'm honest with myself, I've certainly lost "some" of my muscle over the years. But I still like to think I'm 20 and invincible sometimes...

I've been within about three pounds of the same weight for 45+ years. Covid didn't change that. I guess when you look around at the general population though, a gain of 29 lbs. isn't that noticeable.

The real reason I don't put on weight - especially 29lbs is my favourite suit wouldn't fit anymore and I don't want to buy another $800 suit at my age.

Never wear a suit

Problem solved.

Let the undertaker figure it out.
