Do you like nice leather wallets?

I've had this Gurhka leather vest wallet for 32 years. Had to get it repaired recentley a the top and bottom corners have gotten some wear.

After having the George Castansa (sp?) fir years, I moved to a skinny front pocket wallet. Love it.

George sat on his with his fat ass. Mine goes in front pockets or jacket over my heart. Almost as good as a Kevlar breast plate.

I gave up on wallets about 5 years ago. I hated it in my pocket. Now I carry my drivers license and a credit card in my front pocket when I go out. No cash...use tap for all cash purchases. Of course when I go somewhere different like Costco then I take that card as well. Not for everyone I suppose but works well for me and would never go back to a George Costanza situation.

Joe Bob...sorry...no wallet to ship your way. ;)

What you call a "wallet" looks to me like what Cindy carries in her purse for checkbook, cash, and cards. She call it a wallet though, so that's something.

I use an old fashioned leather trifold I picked up years ago from a small shop on the Newport, OR waterfront. So cheap I can't really remember the price. Well under $20...

But then, I do have an edge when Cindy & I out and about together. It's called: "Honey can you stick this in your purse for me?" Usually eyeglasses cases...

I have had the same model of Filson leather wallet for twenty years.

I never put it in my back pocket: It is either in my backpack for normal work/travel, the slim leather case I have for meetings with clients or in my hand with my phone as I go into stores.

Essential item in my life. I don't carry much.

Interesting thread, JB.

The references to the Costanza wallet made me laugh 😊 . I am old school and have a conventional leather wallet . Being old school I carry cash on me , two credit cards and various other cards like health insurance and grocery store . I wouldn't have it any other way.

Seems like we’ve covered this before, not too long ago. Gave up on a traditional wallet back in the 90s, I have used a Schedoni card case since then. Drivers license, debit card, that’s usually about all I carry. Occasionally a bill or two, maybe another debit card.

It carries my passport/birth certificate/ccws/registrations/insurance/pics of my daughters/ss card/.

It's comfortable and it's elegant. I can't get my fat ass Mount Blanc in it so I have pierced my nose.

javadog 04-18-2021 11:42 AM

God forbid you should ever lose it, because everything you carry in it will be a royal pain to replace... And you’ll need some of those very things to replace some of the others.

Joe Bob 04-18-2021 11:48 AM

It's a set....my phone, wallet, book....and my concealed weapon. My 911 has a camera and a motion device....notifies my phone. I drop everything...Yes it's insured....I'm too ****ing old to start over....and I go visit my ride....varmints 3 asswipes 0....

The bimbettes understand...they like the ride too. Also my 911.

Yeah, but why carry your Social Security card and your birth certificate? I haven’t needed either of those except to get a new passport or a new real ID drivers license.

I wouldn’t even carry a passport unless I’m flying somewhere.

I like nice leather things, but I've pretty much stopped carrying a wallet. For a while now, I've been using an inexpensive leather zipped wallet, and made that as minimal as possible. Even then, when I drive the Porsche, it comes out of my pocket. I've switched to a Dash Bando 2.0 now and will likely stick with that. Even with the Bando, when I drive, it comes out of my pocket.

On occasion I have to escape the paperazzi....\\i have certified copies of my schizzle with my mommy....

BTW...last time I checked. Social Security limits the amount of times you can get a copy. Exceed that they send you to New Jersey.

Can't be much worse than where I am now...;)

That said, how important is RFID blocking these days? My current wallet doesn't have that. In the last wallet thread here, I was thinking of one of these:

Still thinking...

As I said in another wallet thread, I'm now a "Ridge" guy. CC's and cash, easy to carry and fits great in front pocket.

I do have the wallet I used to carry, bought it at the Bakersfield Gun Show. An older dude, 75-80 who made saddles and bits and spurs was selling them. Hand tooled, I got the one with oak leaves.

Great wallet, he said "I guarantee them for twenty years, if the stitching comes loose, bring it back and I'll repair it for free"

I'm thinking "Dude, you have the most positive outlook on life I've heard in awhile".

rusnak 04-18-2021 03:39 PM

I carry the absolute minimum on me - a few cards and ID. Cash does NOT go in the wallet but for maybe a single hundy on most days. But I can't give up on carrying a thin wallet. The rest of it stays in my desk and is taken out when needed and put back.

I was going to post sort of the opposite a month ago. Have always had a nice leather wallet but hated carrying it around especially since it carries license, 3 credit cards and health insurance card at the most. A Ridge card wallet ad showed up on FB so I checked them out. $125 and looked like it would fit my needs. So then I looked around some more and found the exactly same thing for $22 on Amazon. Clearly Ridge is buying these for $10 from the manufacturer and marking them up and hoping no one looks around for them before purchase. Pretty happy with my New Bring. Ridge calls it Forged Carbon. I call it an extra $100 in my bank account. :D

Had my Ghurka trifold wallet for 25 years. Still looks new.
Bought a spare in brown but the way things are going with this one I suspect one of the kids will be taking it out of the tissue paper.
