Self congratulations has been the ugly norm for a long time. It's all about shameless attention seeking and...wait for it...money.

I worked for an organization that PROUDLY proclaimed it's top 5 organizational status. It failed (intentionally avoided) to disclose that the awarding entity was an obscure group that would rank places using data submitted by the "competitors" and for a fee.

It was complete BS. Yet, year after year, the place was top 5 and ran ads triumphantly proclaiming the same. Within a few years, ALL of the senior admin's were replaced and...no more awards.

addendum:

So, industries don't promote themselves. The people within them do for their own benefit. For example, I'd wager a paycheck that the resumes circulated by those same admin's cite several years of leading a top 5 organization.

That clinched it. I’m going to “air kiss” my Wife tonight and thank her for “being one of the little people” that helped put dinner on the table tonight.

Oh, and we’ll do lunch sometime. I’ll have my people call her people.

Very different 'feel' to this years presentation.
Don't know any of the movies.

Edit: The movie 'Tenet'...I've seen. Remember not liking it.
Halle Berry doesn't look as good as she did a year ago.

I thought Bong Joon Ho could speak English?

I’m perpetually amazed that anybody watches these self serving circle jerks. Remember that they get their money and power from us, if we don’t watch then they get nothing.

yellowperil 04-26-2021 06:25 AM

Watched the whole thing, it was quite good. Improvised at Union Station which was interesting also.

stevej37 04-26-2021 06:54 AM

I didn't watch the whole thing, but I heard about the 'Best Actor' award going to Anthony Hopkins.
He wasn't there, not on a video feed, or have anyone there to accept the award for him.
He doesn't give a rip!

Some of the thank you's were too long...otherwise I thought it was ok.

Yes, they had said some time ago that no one would be cut off even if they spoke too long. So...… that was carte blanche to go on and on.

didn't watch, but skimmed the daily mail this morning. so i think i get the idea.

the red carpet women don't seem as hot as usual.
