Suicide by sweets?
Hmmm, after a visit to the local clinic for a blood draw I'm about to look for a pool of lava and jump in. Might be easier to become a junkie and overdose though...since the Oregon legislature turned having non dealer quantities of hard drugs into a non offense.
I'd bought a special hepa filter mask to go to the blood draw with. $pendy at $70, with a small box containiing the filter and a fan that blows air through a tube into the mask. I can't tolerate the regular masks...breathing my own carbon dioxide combined with my bum ticker makes me feel like I'm about to pass out. But nooo...not good enough. So, complying with their rules & regs, damned near passed out. Pissed enough, I'm thinking of going to a grocery for a dozen ice cream bars, then a bakery for a dozen creme filled pastries...and slip into that final diabetic coma. At least I'll die with a good taste on my mouth. You see, our Kommisar Kate Brown of Oregon has just announced that she's making the mask requirement a permanent thing... Seriously, why the hell did Cindy & I bother to get both modurna shots? Oh yeah..so we wouldn't have to wear masks....and could actually go out to eat once in a while...maybe go play pool. Lemme tell ya, living in Oregon? It ain't living..it's just existing. Okay..rant over.

Does everyone comply and does everyplace enforce it?
Here, lots of folks blow it off, and most places don't say anything. Carry your stuff that said that you're vaccinated. You can always just not go places that enforce it.

I worked in a hospital kitchen to put myself through college. The dietary aide jobs were pretty desirable because they paid well for manual labor, so most of the kids who filled in the evening shift part time jobs were sons and daughters of middle managers. One of the kids on the shift with me was the son of the head of security and a shirt-tail relative of the head of the dietary department. He was born with Type One diabetes and was on a strict diet. Except he wasn't. Most of the people on the evening shift were students working through the local college, so we didn't have any extra cash for things like Coke and candy bars. Since this kid wasn't going to college and either still lived at home or moved into a cheap apartment with some friends, he had plenty of spending money. Consequently, every break where my close friends and I took the free iced tea or coffee offered by the hospital (we could top the iced tea off with some lemonade, so we felt like bandits when we put a dash of iced tea in a big glass of lemonade) he would stop off at the vending machine and get a candy bar. One evening as he was taking bites out of a full-sized Snickers, someone asked him about his diabetes and eating a candy bar. He nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders and allowed as how he had a short life expectancy anyway, and that eating candy bars like that probably meant he would die in his 30s. We were both probably 20 or younger at the time, an 30 seemed like a senior citizen to us back then. As I watched him take another bite of his candy bar, I wondered why he would sacrifice his health for a trifle that didn't really do anything for him - a treat that my friends and I did without gladly, never even thinking we wanted a Snickers or were deprived of having one. It just seemed like he got nothing out of it and hurt his health.
Not all that many years later I got through school and was married and working when my embryonic family and I traveled back home to stay with my folks for a weekend. My mom mentioned that Brian had passed away from complications relating to diabetes. He was in his 30s, just as he had predicted. I still wondered why he ate so many candy bars and drank so many Cokes on break. I concluded that diabetics can chose to commit suicide by sweets. Having said that, Paul, have big bowl of oatmeal for breakfast and a nice steak for supper. Don't give the Gubner the satisfaction. You and Cindy should outlive her, masks and vaccines or not.

Do you have a source for Kate Brown announcing a permanent mask mandate?
(I've run across lots of people recently who are confused about Oregon OSHA's recent move to make temporary COVID workplace rules permanent. They are doing this because Oregon law doesn't allow them to extend temporary workplace rules past 180 days. The permanent rule is supposed to be repealed when the current COVID crisis is deemed over. The workplace rules do mandate that workers follow whatever is the current state-wide mask guidance from the Oregon Health Authority.) |

Can you wear a face shield in place of the mask if breathing is an issue?

Actually, those are some of my favorite times. My wife and I just starting our careers, fully employed and supporting ourselves but not yet established. Just starting to assert ourselves. My dad was still alive and I was able to start relating to him on an adult-to-adult basis. Those innocent days ended all too soon.

Be thankful you do not live in the people's republic of Oregon.

Damned fine question. The answer out of the state capitol seems to be: "Because we say so."

Quick google search turned this up.
https://govstatus.egov.com/or-oha-face-coverings The pertinent part here is this passage: "If you have a medical condition that makes it hard to breathe or a disability that prevents you from wearing a mask, you can request an accommodation from the business or venue or transit authority." Draw from it what you will. |

I don't want to PARF this up and am not stating that this is rational or not, but those articles about the mask mandate becoming permanent are misleading and not telling the whole story.
Here's a link to OR-OSHA's COVID info: https://osha.oregon.gov/covid19/Pages/default.aspx Scroll down to the green area to find the info about the temporary rule being extended due to issues with how the state limits temporary workplace rules: https://osha.oregon.gov/OSHARules/proposed/2021/ltr-proposed-covid19-public-health-emergency.pdf The OR-OSHA COVID rules all point to the state guidelines for mask usage; the workplace rules relax if the state relaxes the rules: https://sharedsystems.dhsoha.state.or.us/DHSForms/Served/le2288K.pdf |

You can request....they can say no. Barbershop says yes...this clinic says no. If you read my opening post, you'll note I was wearing a mask. Similar to this, only supposedly with a better filter. A mask, yet they still said no...why? Give a flunky a bit of authority and...they enjoy making people miserable. https://www.amazon.com/Rechargeable-Electrical-Purifying-Respirator-Housework/dp/B08CMPDXXC/ref=pd_lpo_200_t_2/135-5472573-7920868?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B08CMPDXXC&pd_rd_r=5f6b87f6-6865-4826-a206-3c23c0b376bc&pd_rd_w=FNGOF&pd_rd_wg=f2pyY&pf_rd_p=337be819-13af-4fb9-8b3e-a5291c097ebb&pf_rd_r=67BP7DZ6D9STSBGF123Q&psc=1&refRID=67BP7DZ6D9STSBGF123Q

Millions of people have no problem breathing while wearing a mask. If you can't breathe with a simple cloth mask on, you have major medical issues. Do you gasp and wheeze when climbing a flight of stairs? Are you morbidly obese ? You have way bigger problems than a mask
