CVTs in theory should be able to give you the best performance AND the best economy in an auto trans if done well/correctly. Our outback has a CVT. So far, it seems to work fine for an automatic. It's been interesting that there's been a couple of time where it's seemed like no shifting took place and the RPM stayed the same, but the speed kept increasing. I think that takes just the exact right circumstances to happen. |

When I take a passenger on a ride in my El Camino, 99% of them forget to lock the passenger door when they get out. Most everyone is used to automatic door locks. I had a friends 12 year old ride with me and he asked how do I lower the window with no window buttons. He had never seen a manual crank for windows, and thought it was cool. |
Jesus some of you guys hate technology and progress. Maybe you should go back to driving cars from the late ‘80s. 🤣🤣🤣

Those white reverse lights which stay on a minute after the car is turned off.
I watched someone get out of left side of a car and walk into the store. But me I'm sitting there like an idiot waiting for the parking spot. The Toyota auto dash lights never work right. At dusk it takes 5min to turn on. And then 10min later it turns off again even though it's now dark. Random operation. I have to twist the stalk switch to make the dash stay on. A light switch is great but Toyota headlights automatically turn on with the engine key. I don't like that either. -When I'm warming up the car late at night, my lights blaze into the neighbor's window. -And what if the battery was low? -And what if a thief walks by while my car is advertising that it is both running and empty? |

Most of the driver aids are meant to fix problems with drivers that aren't preoccupied with driving, eg not paying attention. Brake assist Lane Assist speed assistetc etc And the Nett result is that people pay even less attention to "driving" Cars are becoming an appliance that get you from A to B. It's all nice, but it's not driving. It's individual public transport. Just look at those tards that drive a Tesla on Autopilot without somebody in the drivers seat. They figured out they can trick the Tesla in thinking there's somebody at the wheel by hanging some kind of weight on the steering wheel.. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/auto/auto-news/can-tesla-cars-be-fooled-into-unmanned-driving-this-report-says-yes/how-they-tested/slideshow/82211586.cms?from=mdr |
Lane assist when driving in (very) wet conditions.
They always seem to ‘recognise’ the trails from people driving in front of you as lines/lanes. Pretty fuchin’ scary if the car thinks you’re accidentally going out of your lane and makes a ‘correction’ Not funny at highway speeds, not funny at all... I’ll never forget to switch that sucker off again; |

The friggin turn signal on, headlight off on the side the turn signal is on thing. Drives me nuts.

How could I forget? - really a rhetorical question, had ONE car with it- never again. Also, I don't do big-brother insurance co. monitoring for discounts. Rjp |
Modern car: Tactile feedback and feel is now 'bad'. The smartphoning of the car.

Loud exhausts with all the fake noises.
Fake engine sounds. |
The electronic parking brake vs. a hand lever emergency brake.
wtf does THAT accomplish. Progress my arse!!!!!! (Meet me in the school parking lot next snowstorm for a comparison test!) :) |

My remaining list would be auto start/stop, rain sensing wipers that always seem too aggressive, and all invasive driver nannies that will take over control. Some stuff listed I like, such as power rear hatch and proximity keys. I love not taking a key out of my pocket. |
I will add one comment about this stuff for mostly the sake of fun, but also, in a slightly sobering statement of TABS o'licious-ness.
Take it for what it's worth. When I bought my car last week (yes... it was a dealer , )I went in with a cashier's check and paid in full. Noticing the dealer did not produce a title, I asked about it. "We don't even have titles here You'll get it in the mail. You are the first person this year to even be able to get a title. Very few people here get to ever see one." Add all the features you want. Progress? Maybe. Change for the sake of change? Maybe. Can we even collectively afford all this "progress?" Specifically when all these add ons make the car a forced disposable item that people cannot even act on without a lien? According to the dealer. No. Now get off my lawn while I install new batteries for the remote to open my rear gate before the groceries thaw out! :) |
My mom's Lezbaru Outback has all of that auto crap. All of it. I drive her sheetboku around the building to fill it up once per week, and I can't wait to get out of it. I dust myself off just to get the stench of auto-schit off of me.
My Cayman S has the seatbelt warning if you unclick the seatbelt with the door open, so I disabled it with Durametric Pro. The headlight covers are easy. Buy new headlights. |

I don’t have an opinion whether it’s good or bad, but I’ve always wondered why Toyota makes you turn cruise control ON before you can set it. In my Chevy if I want to set a cruise speed I just get up to that speed and hit “set”. In the Tundra I have to turn the system ON and set the speed separately. Any idea why?

I actually don't like reverse cameras because you tend to only rely on that and not looking around before backing up...that includes looking at the sides of your car. I prefer reverse sensors. I had aftermarket license plate cameras in my suvs and removed them. Now I use the beepers and am more attentive to my reversing. |

Here, they are suppose to give you the title within 30 days.

Last time I bought a car I did not pay the extra money for the optional "johnson massager." I have had regrets, but it was probably a good choice.

I just bought a new (2017) to me vehicle. It has that feature plus adaptive cruise, and accident avoidance. I'm still trying to figure things out how this stuff works. Oh one other thing, no cd player so I have to convert everything to a flash drive |
Autonomous braking!:eek::eek:
My '20 Taco will automatically apply braking if it thinks there's pedestrian in front of me and my speed is 20 or less. IDT I can turn it off like the lane drift alarm. |
The auto start/stop is annoying - but I have gotten use to it. If I'm in heavy start/stop traffic, I turn it off.
sunroofs - I have a love hate relationship with them. I have a 1983 944 with a manual sunroof. I have opened it several times but seldom removed it. It a PITA to lift out and store. On my VW, I have never opened it in almost 2 years of ownership. I leave the shade open in the winter and close it in the summer (the car gets too hot). It is probably the only option I could live without. Cruise control -never uses it. I like my foot/feet on the pedals. |

Same for a family with kids driving - oy veh! |
Engine Start/Stop - to me - is the all-time worst. I'm driving an awesome 2016 Ford Explorer, but was considering passing it down to my daughter and her husband who just had their first child. But the new Explorer has that stupid auto start-stop - no way will I buy into that until forced to do so.

This was in a new Subaru I rode in last weekend. All of the auxiliary controls were through this stupid touch screen.

I like the Lane Keep Assist on my Volt. I’m not sure it has any practical application but on long boring highway drives it’s fun to turn it on and let the car ping pong back and forth across the lane for a while.

push button start. only a matter of time before the button doesn’t work. have already had 2 instances where i pushed button and nothing happened. bad feeling. my jeep isn’t a race car so i don’t get why this stupid button is necessary. keys are too manly i guess
digital gauges are awful even though the 992 looks ok, when the car is off and you look inside all you see is the tach. i hate this. new Mk8 GTI has be ruined by this along with the touch control slider things and non-click steering wheel button controls that provide zero feedback and a giant ipad glued to the dash auto on off start. dumb and annoying and in my opinion, dangerous electric parking break. god i hate these. pressing a parking break pedal or lifting a lever is so bad? back up cameras. not for me, but for some- especially women i believe. my wife doesn’t seem to look around anymore when backing up- just relies upon on the camera. very dangerous i do believe we are at an all time low point for car design |
