easy to use spray gun for painting interior walls/ceilings

Is there a relatively easy to use reasonably priced spray gun that can be used for painting interior (or exterior, too, I suppose) walls and ceilings?

Is this a place where the cheap HF HVLP can be used or is paint for dwellings different than car paint?

It has been my experience that the cheap sprayers are not worth the time or the effort.

I have one you can have...I can send it to you to try out. The issue is generally clogging of the spray tip, masks for indoor use and clean up is a nightmare. I think it is a Graco, older model.

It could be me!

I do have compressor driven sprayers that work very well for large projects.

My experience with HF unit has been very good. only used it for 3 projects so far, 2 inside rooms and 1 outside barn project and spent a ton of time cleaning post use.

Many, many years ago, we tried a "Wagner Power Painter" or one of the Wagner painters that you often saw in commercials. It was a huge pain, and I think we ended up not using it. Of course, part of the problem may have been that we didn't really know what we were doing or how to do it. For instance, the whole "thin the paint" thing.

Thanks for the offer. The missus just asked me about this, and we are on a tighter schedule than would allow waiting for something to arrive from your place.

The missus has a ton of experience painting with brushes and rollers. I'm not sure why she's trying to make a big change now when she's in a hurry. Trying something new seems like a recipe for disaster.

I painted a whole house interior in two days one time , with a cheap airless sprayer.
I just covered the floors and windows, and blasted eggshell off white everywhere.
It was fun !

Use an airless paint sprayer, the typically come with a reversible nozzle, which if it happens to clog flip the nozzle and use the paint in the line to unclog.. Sell it on Facebook or craigslist when your done..

Just use a roller, on a telescoping extension pole, or possibly an inner feed roller, have never tried one. I picked up a medium size sprayer (Titan xt330) new build and had lots of paint to apply, but ended up using roller for most of it, do you intend on ceiling and walls being same colour? I think when the pro's use these they use it to just apply the paint and have a second person follow behind with a roller.

Go to Home Depot or a professional paint store and rent an airless sprayer. It will make the job quick but remember, when it comes to painting prep is everything. Mask and cover anywhere you do not want overspray, especially indoors.

I bought this for outside painting...the reviews are excellent.
In the spring I will use it for my fence and a storage building. I'll report back.

Wagner airless is the way to go.
I borrowed my brother's unit when we first moved in and sprayed the whole inside of the house. Did the outside too. I had experience in a previous job using them so it wasn't too much of a hassle.
Just wish I'd gotten the inside of the garage painted like I wanted but life goes on.

Get the kind that sucks the paint out of the bucket. Your arms will thank you later. Trust me on this.

What?!? You mean I shouldn't figure out how to hang a 5 gal bucket off of the thing?

Excellent point.

I've used the Wagner power sticks for painting individual rooms and/or ceilings for several years. Goes much quicker than using a roller only - as you don't spend near as much time loading it with paint as you do using a roller and tray.,

I had an airless spray gun called a Krebs made in Switzerland (must be good if they speak German LOL) it was excellent.

Now my Chinese made is used for rough stuff. Noisy but works well.

The secret is to use the viscosity cup (din4) that comes with it. They are not very adjustable and are setup for one viscosity only.

The pros who painted my building used a power roller. It pumps paint directy from the paint bucket or can right onto the roller.

Keep in mind if you want any texture on the walls/ceilings, you'll have to back roll once you spray. I have a Wagner power sprayer like the one below. You can move a lot of material with a wide spray pattern without thinning. I did my entire 24x40 garage with it and an extension to reach the ceilings. But my garage isn't drywall, it's OSB with 1x4 strips covering the seams so I didn't need texture.
