I can remember going up to Laguna to watch the races back when I used to ride. Got to see Freddie and Roberts ride. This was before the track configuration change too. Lots of speed on the back straight going up the hill. I have film pics of them somewhere...

To me this is the epitome of Ruthless: 35 years later on an unrideable, overpowered TZ750 bike, Kenny gets on the gas for some celebratory laps with Valentino Rossi in the crowd shaking his head and saying "No way I'd ride that".

"I think all those guys had their moments at the top- all great champions. I'm no expert, but I think Kenny Roberts may have been the best. I met Wayne Rainey for a moment at Alice's Restaurant 15 years ago. He didn't get a full career due to his crash."

Alice's ???? like in the mountains on skyline in woodside Alice's?

wow.... if so... when i got my 911 at 21 22, i used to go up there and drive it hard....... my heart was still pounding by the time i got to the parking lot.

I met Eddie Lawson in Anaheim at a Yamaha dealers meeting. Very nice guy, I didnt have any paper, so I got his autograph on a hundred dollar bill.

Spencer had the most natural talent and was the smoothest. Schwantz probably had the most desire. Roberts, Lawson, and Rainey had the most success, because they worked harder, day in and day out, to get the slightest advantage. Roberts was something of a protege to Lawson and especially Rainey. They really weren’t all contemporaries, their riding careers spanned 20 years, not 10.
