Such a beautiful song...I'm a sucker for harmonizing voices. From the Everly Brothers to the Mamas and the Papas to The Beach Boys to The Beegees to The Temptations to you name it...

The Wrecking Crew documentary is excellent and not to take anything away from Lou Adler but he's one of those guys whose main talent seems to be being in the right place at the right time, which is a considerable talent in his case.

I watched the documentary on John Phillips and Michelle was recounting the story of John waking her up in the middle of the night to help him write California Dreaming. He knew that he had something and told her to get up, she'd never regret it. She said, "and I never have..."

That song brings a smile to my face, and a tap to my foot every time I hear it...same way with some of the Beach Boys tunes from the same era !

Love it! I remember them on all the TV shows of the time. Can't beat that sound. Thanks for posting.

My senior year in high school I had a pretty easy schedule: bowling for zero and first period on Mon-Wed-Friday and gubmint for fourth period. Then I had ROP body shop for the rest of the day.
That gubmint class was mandatory in senior year or I would have gradumacated after my junior year.

So I signed up for a beginning guitar class in third period to pass the time even though I had been playing guitar for years.

One of the songs we had to learn was California Dreaming, just enough to strum the chord progression.
For some reason I really got into that song and practiced it constantly for a couple weeks.
So when it came time to play it as a group in class, I got bored with strumming and pretty much went off on my own.
"Who was that? Who was playing that?"
I had to do some butt kissing to keep from getting kicked out of the "beginning" class.

Doesn't seem that long ago, but sadly the last surviving member of the M&P's is Michelle and she's 76.

If you have Netflix, be sure to watch "Echo in the Canyon" if you haven't already... you will thank me. It's excellent.

I enjoyed every second of "Once upon a time in Hollywood", but I particularly loved this part of it

I was doing an install at a customer's site in Minnesota one winter. California Dreaming came on the overhead speakers in the fab. Man I wanted to be back home. I had been there too long.

The Ed Sullivan show comes on here after Columbo on Sunday nights, a few weeks ago they were on it singing that song.
