Loaned out my yard cart and....................

the guy I loaned it to just about managed to destroy it! Damage amounted to a bent axle (3/4" solid steel rod), bent axle shaft mount and a totally destroyed bearing in one of the wheels! Mind you, I have had this heavy duty yard cart for going on 20 years or so and only managed a couple of flat tires from large thorns! I really can't imagine what he put into this cart to do so much damage in one day! Anyway, today I went to Tractor Supply for two new wheel/tire assemblies, then on to my local Ace hardware for a new 3/4" steel rod and some minor hardware. I had a scrap of steel angle that was adequate to replace the axle mount. I used a vertical mill to duplicate the mounting holes in the old axle and fitted the new wheel and tire combo one on each end of the axle. I have no doubt that this repair will last me another 15 or 20 years. Especially since it won't get loaned out again. Cost for parts to make the repairs came to about $100 without even an apology from the culprit!. Grrrrrrrrr.

My loaning criteria has firmed up. Either, I really like someone and don't really care if they return it. Or, I don't loan it.

Borrowed my buddies gas pressure washer.

Decided to clean one more thing before returning and of course the hose **** the bed.

Was nothing I’d done, it was just its time.

Returned with the toast hose as well as a brand new one.

He says “thanks but you didn’t need to do that”

Yes I did.

Return things in the same shape or better than when you borrowed them.

This. It’s the price you pay for not going out and buying it yourself.

I had the thatch bar on my Craftsman mower and my neighbor asked to borrow it to do his lawn.
Comes back out of fuel and covered in dust.

On the other hand, he did give me the mower when his company moved somewhere that didn't require a mower so I guess it is ok....

I had about 4 wheelbarrows when I was still in the landscape business. Every time I did a job with them I had to remind my workers not to overload the barrows.

Every time.

I told them the idea was the get through the project with our equipment still functioning.

Nevertheless I can't tell you how many times they would still overload the barrows.

We're not trying to set the world's record here on how much we can put in a wheelbarrow!

Send him a repair bill. He likely knows what he did.

You've got nothing to lose and it might teach him a lesson.

I have three people I'll lend stuff to.

One guy, a retired USMC Colonel, Frog pilot, had a lot of erosion on this place and asked to borrow my dump trailer.

He put four new tires on it: "I use it more than you do!"

I just loaned out my handTruck.

the guy is weird, but he has that degenerative eye thing where his world is getting dark. he said his vision is a smaller and smaller tunnel. right now he said it is like looking down a toilet paper cardboard tube. FAACK.

he NEVER returns things. ever. when I need it again, I will need to ring his doorbell. whatever.

he is getting depressed to the point where his wife left his ass last week. hence the dolly.

whatever, my missing handtruck is tiny compared to looking at the world thru a cardboard tube, that will eventually be a straw and then total black.
