Baz is an enabler . What is a 240 like to drive ?

Im looking for my next low buck flip. I just did a couple of Honda, Acura cars, super easy to fix up, great daily appliances, and really easy to sell, but man, booooooring .
I have always had a jones for a 240 wagon . I have the image in my head of basket weave bbs wheels, 1.5-2" drop, slight rat rod look, luggage rack on the roof etc...
I usually daily my flips for however long I own them. I sort them out as I am driving them , and then send them down the road when I get bored .
A 240 would be great for hauling our junk in and out of the city to the rentals, and the other mundane tasks that I do weekly around the house . I really only have to commute 8 miles to work daily , so that is not a huge deal .
It has been a long time since I have been in one, but my memories of them are really slow, with volkswagen bus like handling .
Think Id hate it ?

When I saw the thread title, I thought Datsun. But now I realize you're talking Volvo. Sorry to have gotten my hopes up.

I put over 200,000 miles on an 86 model. It ran out its last days as a "ranch truck" pulling a utility trailer for hauling construction material, junk and lawn tractors until the fuel pump in the gas tank died and I did not want to deal with it any more. Shoved it back in the woods until it was donated to a charity and they hired a truck to tow it away. It was a tank but OK to drive. Poor fuel mileage unless hauling a canoe on top which seemed to break up the turbulence created by the blunt rear end.

Hey Jolly.....don't feel bad. I've had two 145's towed off. Ranks right up their with saddest days of my life.

Fred...are you looking for a manual transmission? Because those are the legit schizzzle. To get a stick shift.

I'll keep my eyes peeled.....

I've had two Volvo 240s as winter beaters while I winter stored my Datsun 240z. My mom drove a 1987 244 for 20 years that we bought new.
I had a 1980 242 GL and a 1983 245 GL, both manual cars. They are heavy and slow. My wagon had IPd suspension bits, so it handled, and could haul everything except ass. They will run forever, but, they rust....floors, rockers, quarters, behind rear arches, hoods, doors, tailgates, around the glass, basically everywhere.
I bought an e28 5 series BMW and said good bye to Volvos. I did like the Volvos, but they are really just too slow.
BUT....if you have a 302 kicking around, it fits quite nicely

Weston is one of the wealthiest towns in MA. It was probably the nanny's car though how it got so many miles is a mystery.

Mrs. Noah grew up un MA, though not Weston. They had a 240 wagon. Over the years it acquired the rear window decals of all the schools she and her siblings attended. They eventually sold the car, but would still run into it occasionally when they would vacation in FL. She said it was hysterical when FL friends would comment on sightings of their car, too.

I ran into a guy in Seattle with one that had a 5.0 decal on the back. I joked about it, and he promptly popped the hood. He had indeed put an 80s era Mustang 5.0 in it! It sounded awesome, and the guy said it went pretty good in a straight line.

Absolutely nothing "low buck" about flipping a Datsun Z.

Back 15-20 years ago, I used to buy them whole for $500....not now !

This car came all the way up from Texas one year ago. It was a gift. I do not have the money to restore it. Yes, this car is over 600,000 miles. The odometer broke a few years ago at ~590k miles. It's a tank.

It RUNS!

Hasn't driven in snow.

Odometer broken

Needs a new throw-out bearing {Makes lots of noise}.

Driver side door latch is broken; must open from passenger side.

I'm pretty sure pictures say it all...

Selling it as is. This car is most definitely a project car.
Located in Detroit. BIN at $4K......but "Make an offer" still in play.

1 day & 21 hours left in auction

I'd offer $2K and see what happens.

I wonder why the plates in the pic are blanked out - it's not like anyone is going to steal it.

Yes they did, in 240 wagons, (rare), and in 740 and 940 wagons, (more common). They are all great cars and I’ve had several, going back decades. RWD Volvo wagons are awesome, a bit utilitarian but built extremely well and comfortable to drive. The handling is actually quite good for what they are, if the suspension is tight.

I just had this one go through my hands very recently:
