New Mac

I need a new mac for work. I only need it for the Apple Configurator for our MDM stuff so it doesn't need to be a high end one. What should I get?

What's more convenient for you, the cheapest Macbook air or a Mac mini? If you just need one thing, then I assume the cheapest and least powerful option is your best bet.

I recently got a base M1 Mac Mini. I think it was $589 on Mac Refurbished. Drives a 42" Acer beautifully. Very fast. Couldn't be happier.

I would guess the laptop would be more convenient as it could go between offices for whoever wants to setup the iPads. Anything specific or just buy the cheapest and be done?

If all you need is the configurator, I don't see any reason why the cheapest macbook air wouldn't more than work for you. My wife has a MacBook air from 2013. It's still working and running, I believe, the most current version of OSX. At the time we upgraded from the 128GB SSD to the 256GB SSD. I don't think she's ever come close to using the 128GB. A few years ago, I upgraded the RAM. It's cheaper to go aftermarket on the RAM than get it from Apple. But that's was unnecessary for the first several years that she owned it and when we did, wasn't necessary, but was nice to have. I think she's currently running 8, the same as the specs below.

Two Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports

$999.00
They have stuff similar to the above refurbished for $150 less than the model above or stuff with much lower specs for $250 less.

This one has to be new - it is from a grant. Ordered and on the way. Thanks.
