The disappearing 10mm

I’ve seen memes about the proclivity of 10mm wrenches to go missing.

I just picked up the wife’s car from our mechanic and just as I get home, I get a call from him looking for his 10mm socket. Found it on the cowl under the wipers.

Arrived this morning, I already lost one so they're definitely 10mm. Good construction and finish, good thing to stock up on.

I just got back a Snap on locking extra long 3/8 ratchet. Guy said I left it under his hood when I had my frst shop in Cranberry . That was over 20 years ago. He held on to it for that long , he mentioned having it a couple of times over the years. It has been missing so long, I honestly do not even remember using it , I like the bent handle ratchets much better .
Any how, I have doubles of my deep and shallow 10 mm 3/8, and 1/4 sockets

It didn't have a friend with it by any chance, a 10mm Powerbuilt?

He had an idea where it went based on what he was doing. He was afraid it had fallen off on the road or into the engine bay where it would do damage. Fortunately the extension and 1/4” ratchet was still attached, so it was heavy enough not to get kicked up at the windshield.

I bought a small, new set of Snap-on so my older boy and I can work on his old 4 runner last summer. for all the the socket we took out to change all we needed to do in that two months, he goes and lose the 10mm from the set, a deep socket. Left it somewhere before we went off on the test drive, I think. He felt pretty bad about it for 5 min then forgets as we all drove off to get ice cream. I need to buy that set posted above.

For me it was the 9mm combination wrench that is used on air cooled VW mufflers. I left my Thorsen 9mm right there in the little shelf of the rear valance. Finally after something like 45 years and this thing called eBay coming along, I found my wrench and it cost me just about what the set cost in the 70's.

There are more than one model Thorsen and this one is the longest and slimmest. Hard to find.

I have 10mm sockets up the wazoo.

Its 1/2in that are my elusive ones. I'm always losing them.

Hah. That's what the hex 13mm is for. 12 point not so much.

Same deal for the 14mm as a substitute for 9/16ths. Not many of us can say we haven't done that.

Its my 13mm that escapes. Last time it fell off the extension I just grabbed a 1/2 inch thinking I would pick up the 13 later. No, it was not to be found. Weeks later I was under the truck and saw it through a hole in the frame. Fished it out with a magnet. I still can not figure out how it got there. Had to bounce sideways at a very specific angle to get in that small hole.

I find a 10mm wrench or socket in the gutter on my bike rides about once a month. I lose about one a month, so there is a sort of "balance" in nature.

I guess I’ll hijack my own post.

I left my brothers house a couple of weeks ago and get a call from him just as I’m getting home, asking if I see my nephew’s phone in the car. I don’t, but he says the tracking is showing it at my house.

He says to look on the trunk. Evidently the silicone cases are pretty sticky because it was on the trunk lid pinned against the spoiler. It made it 25 miles at highway speeds with a few clover leafs and stayed exactly where my nephew left it.
