Google Fiber dumping TV cable

We got notified this past Friday that Google Fiber is dumping all their TV offerings by Sept. 1 and will just be a fiber internet provider in this area. To make it go down easier, if you agreed they will send you as many Chromecast devices as you currently have TV boxes, enough routers based on house square footage and little voice remotes for each TV, all free to current subscribers. So we did it and made the switch to streaming only. We just cut our bill roughly in half and they vastly increased the internet speed to boot. We picked up Locast for $5. per month along with Sling and might be soon dumping Sling. At first we were upset (being stuck in our ways) but now couldn't be happier with it.

Will there be a discount in service price?

I'd be interested with your impressions of Locast. We have had it here for over a year now and I have tried it off-and-on a few times. It seems to be a decent service, but I found that the picture would degrade and pixelate at times.

The one thing that really was holding me back from switching over to Locast was the lack of a DVR. But, a resourceful individual has reworked locast2plex and has come out with Locast2DVR. I will probably give that a try soon.

We get to keep our current internet only fee of $55. pet month, and new customers will pay $70. I am sure Google will raise our price at some point.

Paul, the Locast is sharp and no pixilation so far. We use it for the local Charlotte channels mostly. We don't seem to ever DVR anything so that's not an issue.

We’ve gone cable free but our internet only is $75. Total rip off.

We do have Netflix and Prime, but I never watch tv.
