Karman Ghia Targa

I like the concept. This guy is good with computer designs...

That's pretty cool. And clever. I'll give him that. Maybe just a tad over the top. What I mean is that the same ideas with a little less extremism, fenders and wheel wise, it would still play out beautifully.

DonDavis 05-15-2021 09:14 AM

Has he actually made one yet? My guess is a resounding no.

Sure, the design looks interesting, and like Milt says, a tad over the top, but cool.

But to actually build that would be $200k easily.

Zeke 05-15-2021 10:06 AM

Don, I noticed that the tires and suspension did not move one iota in the video so maybe that is all CGI. If so, that's even more impressive than the car (to me).

Ayles 05-15-2021 10:12 AM

There was an rwb targa from a while back that isnt all that far off from this one.

What's the ground clearance?....2 inches?

Yup, that whole video is CG. Just think about what it'd take to get the mechanicals for the Targa bar, the top and the rear window to all work that smoothly.

That alone would be impressive to accomplish.

You have repeatedly awed us with your wicked building skillz.
Just imagine how many eff bombs you would fling tackling that.

Love it, especially the gray one, I would swap out the rims.

Nostril Cheese 05-15-2021 01:49 PM

There's not a lot of structure on the top of a Ghia to pull this off.

I dont know why youd try... a Ghia cab is one of the prettiest cars ever made

My thoughts exactly.

A bit pimpy for me.

Sure, engineering master piece etc, but I'd prefer the original car.

Did they sell the Ghia in NZ?

I remember a time when Ghias were $1000 cars in Southern California.

Today, you almost never see them on the road. Would have never thought they would become collector cars. Try finding one that hasnt had the front nose crushed in.

Aurel 05-15-2021 02:26 PM

It is all CGI, by the way .

I don't know if they sold them through the network, but there are a reasonable number of coupe ones around. I've only ever seen one cab' in NZ. I was going to go to South Africa in the early 90's and buy some RHD cabs to send back, but the dreaded English ;) had already been and bought just about every cab available :(

I must agree but the guy designed a cool car around the Ghia none the less. The 911 is maybe the most Iconic car ever designed we still have Coupes, Cabs and Targa's.

Unlike the Ghia I could do with out the 911 cab bug the Ghia cab is gorgeous.

OK-944 05-16-2021 03:48 AM

Hah! That tricked-out Karman Ghia wouldn't even make it off of about any I-91 exit ramp north of Bradford (VT) without its bottom being pulverized!

I concur.

My sister had one in law school, yellow with a black top.

Rust victim. In those days, late 70's/early 80's, they weren't worth repairing.

Concerning the OP, I don't think the designer had my demographic in mind:D

Same here. It is interesting, but oversize wheels and slammed to the ground is the typical look of all car "restomoddres" today, and for the last few years. I wonder how many Camaros have had tubs, the enormous wheels grafted on, and then slammed to supper low ground clearance. I am sick of that look.

Those wheels and crazy fender flares are not for me at all.

More 914 than 911 Targa, but better than that computer animation in my opinion.
