German Blitzkrieg

Most 9 ball matches with a race to 9 games won at the pro level take around 1 1/2 hours.

This one took less than 1/2 hour. Young German Joshua Filler was in a hurry..takes amazing talent to play this fast and well. Poor Shane Van Boening,,,he was shell shocked in this one.

If you're wondering why the ref seems to be counting after the break, a "3 point" rule is in effect. Imposed to eliminate soft breaking. 3 ponts are a combination of number of balls sunk on the break and number of balls that go back behind the headstring. For example..one ball made on the break, combined with 2 balls behind the head string is a legal break. Less than 3 points, opponent can either shoot with table as it is or give it back to the breaker.

Why dont you enter a couple of tournaments instead of moaning on and on?

Or do you suck at pool?

Had a buddy who was ranked about a couple dozen in Mi. He would almost run around the table and run racks on me.
I once ran four of five racks after a jerk buddy got too cocky and bet me $5. He never paid.
These days I couldn't find the cue ball on the table.

Pool is something I do either when drunk, or bored, I would rather be outside.

And the older you get, the better you were, right?

One evening, a guy came into the pool hall, girl in tow. He "teaching" her how to play.
Pretty obvious he lacked the skill...one guy offered some help..girl blurted that the guy she was with was the Iowa state champ. Poor bastard knew everybody knew he .was, er, "stretching the truth" to impress the girl. The guys were kind...didn't spoil his action.

Pool hall etiquette..

Etiquette...something lacking on this forum..

Posting threads with baited titles to mislead people into thinking it's about German WW2 tactics, when in reality it's about pool.. is poor etiquette indeed.

You obviously didn't watch the video or hear the announcer describe the match as just that..

Yeah, I suck...most in their 70's do. Even "The magician" Efren Reyes, now in his late 60's, loses to the young dogs now. But he remains on any top 5 list as the greatest rotation pool players to ever play the game. Efren gets my vote as #1, Earl Strickland, late 50's now, a close second, USA's Shane Van Boening, might be early 40's now, third. All 3 now lose to Filler, in his early 20's. He's an arrogant little Richard head, but that's understandable, considering his record of major tournament winnings.

One too true line delivered by Paul Newman, playing Eddie Felson in his acadamy award winning role in The Color of Money: "Pool's a young man's game. My wheels are shot."

Yep, I suck at pool. Hope to continue to do so for years to come.

Why would I care to watch a video about pool.
I don't care what the announcer says , it's still not WW2 German blitzkrieg , but pool.

Some give up, not everybody does...you didn't watch the movie, either...the plot has Fast Eddie Felson working hard at a comeback. Many older players try to make up for the physical difficulties that arise by playing smarter, or even changing games...many of the better one pocket players are well past 40...One pocket...all 15 balls are racked normally, each player given one of the corner pockets. The first to sink 8 balls in his designated pocket wins the game. Sounds simple...it's anything but...it's nearly as strategic as chess. This game gives old age and treachery a chance over youth and skill.

Here's a brief Paul Newman clip the ending of Color of Money:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49txtk1uMY&t=1s

But apples/oranges to compare guitar playing to pool. Blind people can, and do play guitar very well. As eyesight fades, the missed shots increase in pool..once a player's vision gets to the point of needing reading glasses, seeing that perfect spot on the object ball just isn't what it used to be. (edit) a little arthritus or bursitus, the stroke can't be as straight as it once was...father time is an especially mean bastid to pool players...once they gain the knowledge, the peeling of onion layers gained by practice and experience, then the body begins it's little failures. This is very painful to the former champions. I think it bothers recreational players like me less.

(edit) Here's 12 minutes of Joe Rogan on The Hustler, color of money, and pool in general. Some might find it interesting.
